Tutor CoordinatorGeorge Mason University's Learning Services invites applications for a term limited Tutor Coordinator position. George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff, and strongly encourages candidates to apply who will enrich Mason's academic and culturally inclusive environment.About the Position:This position is responsible for assisting the university in its academic efforts by coordinating a pilot tutoring program for students enrolled in Business courses. Learning Services addresses the needs of students in the general student body and in specific populations including those in academic difficulty, high-risk courses, culturally diverse groups, traditionally underprepared groups, students with learning disabilities, and Attention Deficit Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD). In addition, Learning Services provides support to faculty and staff in their efforts to improve student learning.Position Responsibilities:Coordinate tutoring pilot program under the supervision of the Associate Director, Learning Services;Recruit, train, and supervise candidates for tutor positions;Communicate with faculty to help recruit tutors, promote the tutoring program, and assist develop academic support services for the targeted population;Coordinate training program for tutors;Update tutor materials as needed;Oversee tutoring spaces and equipment;Monitor tutor schedules and notes in online student success management system;Communicate with Associate Director regarding any issues that may arise between tutors and tutees;Attend relevant tutor-related and Learning Services meetings;Assist with program assessment and evaluation;Create a report about the tutoring program at the end of the semester; andOther duties as assigned.Position Time Commitment: The Tutor Coordinator position is designed for a 20 hour per week work commitment through May 19, 2023, with a possibility to renew for Fall 2023.Required Qualifications:Must be reliable, responsible, self-motivated, confident, sincere, flexible, dedicated, and considerate;Must possess strong written and verbal communication skills;Must take initiative and utilize creative thinking skills in order to coordinate programs and initiatives, and consider multiple issues, needs, possibilities, etc.;Must have an ability to relate to people from diverse backgrounds;Must exhibit exceptional professionalism and a strong work ethic; andMust be available and accessible for the time commitment involved.Preferred Qualifications:Experience with teaching, tutoring, training, or presenting; andExperience with supervision.
