Department of Computer ScienceAdministrative Specialist (Human Resources)The George Mason University Department of Computer Science, within the College of Engineering and Computing, seeks a proactive, organized, and self-reliant Administrative Specialist (Human Resources). Depending upon your department/office, you may have the ability to telework 1-2 days per week.Position Responsibilities:HR Coordination:Manage and coordinate the hiring process for all adjunct faculty, graduate teaching assistants, wage, and student wage employees hired to work for Computer Science to include distribution and collection of hiring paperwork, origination of contracts, and entering personnel assignments;Manage and coordinate the HR process for all affiliate faculty and visiting scholars working with Computer Science to include distribution and collection of hiring paperwork, origination of contracts, and entering personnel assignments;Coordination of GTA and adjunct faculty orientation each semester;Work with faculty and course coordinators to verify adjunct resume degree credentials, and GTA CELTD/GPA/SPEAK scores prior to forwarding to faculty for consideration (according to set department standards);Verify eligibility for PhD and MS GTA appointments;Initiate and approve all student wage employee timesheets;Work closely with CEC HR Team to create and submit uploads three times a year (fall, spring, and summer) to hire GTAs and adjuncts; andEnter personnel assignments into Banner (ERP), confirm payments, maintain hiring spreadsheets, and issue swipe and key access requests.Departmental Personnel Actions:Coordinate, organize, and participate in the interview process, arrange candidate travel, interview seminars, and reimbursements;Assist with the onboarding of new instructional faculty; andAssist with administrative process for instructional faculty hires.Office and Administrative Support:Work directly with faculty on routine and special requests;Assist in trouble shooting and problem solving to ensure problems are resolved quickly and efficiently;Order and disseminate parking vouchers to adjunct faculty;Send listserv announcements;Liaise with other administrative offices of the College and University in a manner to contribute to the best interest of the department;Process, monitor, and approve all scholarships and awards per George Mason's rules and regulations, policies and procedures; andAct as trouble shooter and problem solver for all related matters.Required Qualifications:Bachelor's degree; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.Preferred Qualifications:Demonstrated interpersonal and communication skills (both written and verbal);Advanced customer service skills;Ability to work effectively with a wide range of constituencies in a diverse community;Proficient computer skills and demonstrated experience with office software (particularly MS Word and Excel) and email applications;Prior experience effectively identifying and addressing problems;Prior experience in human resources; andPrior experience in higher education.Mason Engineering: The Future of Computing is HereThe College of Engineering and Computing at George Mason University is comprised of the Volgenau School of Engineering and the School of Computing.
