Student Services AssistantThe Student Services Assistant position plays an important role in supporting graduate students. This position is part-time. This position works closely with the Director of Graduate Student Services, the Program Director and the Graduate Academic Advisor. Occasional evening activities are required in conjunction with Carter School Admission Office events and orientation schedules. The position is based in Arlington, VA.George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff, and strongly encourages candidates to apply who will enrich Mason's academic and culturally inclusive environment.Responsibilities:Graduate Student Success SupportManage graduate student services event calendar;Develop and implement communication campaigns including direct emails, newsletters, LinkedIn, social media;Develop and implement student engagement events; andParticipate in orientation, admissions, and career development events.Academic AdvisingAdvise graduate certificate students on course planning each semester;Support and process student academic forms (e.g., late registration and late graduation); andIdentify and assist academically at-risk graduate students.Administrative SupportTimely response to student queries;Prepare reports on student milestones, concentrations, graduation audits, internships etc.; andPrepare and maintain confidential student files.Required Qualifications:Bachelor's Degree or an equivalent combination of education and/or experience;Effective communication and organizational skills and experience (or ability to engage) with appropriate technologies;Ability to build a rapport with students; building trust, flexibility; and an empathetic, non-judgmental, and ethical approach with a diverse group of students; andAbility to work within a team and to take proactive action when needed to support students.Preferred Qualifications:Previous experience in academic advising; andKnowledge of PatriotWeb, Banner and/or Navigate.This is a part-time position (20 hours per week). Flexible schedule can be arranged. Standard business hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday to Friday; may require evening work depending on the student services event schedule.
