ESP also includes additional graduate program faculty from across the university and numerous affiliated environmental professionals. The following degrees are awarded: B.S. in Environmental Science, B.A. in Environmental and Sustainability Studies, M.S. in Environmental Science and Policy, and a Ph.D. in Environmental Science and Public Policy. These courses have large enrollment; multiple lecture sections and multiple laboratory sections are offered each semester. The successful applicant will be expected to revise the curriculum, develop new and exciting approaches to the lecture materials, and design modern laboratory exercises to enhance learning, as well as to supervise all lecture and laboratory instructors (graduate teaching assistants) for these courses. This is a renewable 9-month Term Instructional Faculty position at the Assistant Professor rank. The expected teaching responsibility for this position is the equivalent of four courses per semester. Service activities within ESP and the College of Science are expected. Required Qualifications:Completion of a PhD in a relevant discipline by August 15, 2023;Demonstrated excellence in teaching, with a minimum of 4 semesters of teaching introductory environmental science at the college undergraduate level; and proven ability to collaborate with faculty and graduate students;Demonstrated knowledge of barriers faced by historically minoritized and marginalized students and faculty, either within their discipline or related to the position;Share the department's commitment to Inclusive Excellence in undergraduate and graduate instruction; andThe ability to share the department's commitment to transdisciplinary education and research.Preferred Qualifications:A proven record in undergraduate lab course management;Experience teaching in a 4-year University setting;Experience working with graduate teaching assistants;Two years of post-doctoral experience; andExperience in communicating science to the general public and/or non-scientists.George Mason University, a Carnegie Research I institution, is the largest, most diverse, and innovative public university in Virginia with more than 38,000 students from all 50 states and more than 135 countries.
