Assistant/Associate Term Professor in Applied Voice, ClassicalThe Dewberry School of Music of George Mason University, one of the most diverse institutions in American higher education, seeks a dynamic Assistant or Associate Term Professor to serve in the area of Applied Voice, Classical, starting August 2023. This is a full-time, annually renewable Term 9-month position, with the possibility for promotion and multi-year contracts on subsequent term appointments. Salary is commensurate with experience. Primary responsibilities include applied teaching of graduate and undergraduate music majors within the Dewberry School of Music and recruitment of vocal students. Additional responsibilities include teaching courses such as diction, vocal pedagogy, repertoire, or others, and coaching advanced students for recitals or competition appearances. Soprano preferred, other voice categories considered.Required Qualifications:Minimum of a Master of Music degree or equivalent professional experience;Distinguished record of performance, teaching and artistry;Commitment to recruitment and to developing relationships with area, national, and international vocal professionals;Demonstrated success with teaching applied voice at the university level;Ability to coach singers in standard Italian, German, French, and English;Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and belonging in teaching;Strong interpersonal skills and vision;Willingness to participate fully with colleagues in faculty committees to further develop the Dewberry School of Music and the College of Visual and Performing Arts; andKeyboard abilities suitable for private studio instruction.Preferred Qualifications:Doctorate in Vocal Performance preferred;Soprano preferred, other voice categories considered;Strong interest in, and passion for, vocal pedagogy and lyric diction;Expertise in traditionally under-represented composers/repertoire; andAbility to mentor graduate student research.
