The ideal candidate will have experience in wildfire research and be familiar with the HYSPLIT atmospheric transport and dispersion model and/or other comparable models. The Research Scientist will be expected to publish the results of their research in high-quality, peer-reviewed journals, and make professional presentations at conferences, seminars, and other internal NOAA meetings. The incumbent is also expected to collaborate with other GMU researchers, as well as NOAA Air Resources Laboratory researchers in carrying out this wildfire R&D. The position is available from January 2023 for 2 years, once filled, with funding available for additional time, dependent on availability of resources and performance.Required Qualifications:Successfully completed a Masters or Doctoral degree in meteorology, geosciences, atmospheric science, atmospheric physics, atmospheric chemistry, or a sub-field of physical geosciences;Preferred Qualifications:Experience with Lagrangian atmospheric transport and dispersion models;Experience in model evaluation and development;Experience with one or more aspects of wildfire modeling;Experience working in UNIX/Linux computing environments;Programming experience, e.g., Fortran, Python, shell scripts;Excellent written and oral communication skills;Significant data visualization skills; andU.S. Citizen or Permanent Resident ("Green Card").
