Senior Web Developer/Data Engineer

Description:

As a web developer/analyst you will support the design, development, enhancement, debugging and implementation of software applications focused on data science, data visualization and data analysis using JavaScript and Python. You are comfortable gather requirements and working with stakeholders, subject matter experts and end-users to conduct thorough analysis and software development of business processes and identify enhancements.

Program Mission:

The program you will be supporting has a mission to provide development, security, and operations (DevSecOps) with a focus on development, operations, and modernization of the agency’s enterprise data warehouse/data lake. The team utilizes open-source, AWS Cloud, and big data technologies, agile project management practices, and modern DevSecOps delivery to provide the business intelligence support systems to meet the reporting, data analytics, and machine learning/artificial intelligence needs critical to USCIS leadership, data/business analysts, data scientists, and other decision-makers.

Responsibilities:

· Building out custom JavaScript websites using standard front-end development tools to host graph-based visualizations along with other project information

· Developing graph visualizations using D3 JavaScript library

· Support clear and concise JIRA tickets for team task management

· Participating in daily scrums and communicating effectively with all members of the team

· Map out and document processes using Confluence & other virtual whiteboard tools

· Provide direct support in the day-to-day operations on network hardware and operating systems including the evaluation of system utilization, monitoring response time and primary support for detection and correction of operational problems.

· Provide technical consultation, training and support to IT staff as designated by the government.

Requirements:

· Ability to develop visualizations, models, charts and diagrams to convey concepts, ideas, processes

· Advanced working knowledge of JavaScript, HTML & CSS for web development

· Comfortable using popular JS frameworks, such as D3.js, node.js & jQuery

· Working knowledge of Python and JSON Schema

· Ability to write complex SQL queries and scripts

· Participates in planning design, technical review, implementation and demos of advanced analytics projects

· Understands how to create and integrate APIs into projects to communicate with other tools and platforms

· Familiar with the concept of data lakes

· Experience with Agile development practices, including Scrum and Kanban, and management tools (e.g., Jira, Confluence)

· Experience with GIT and branching strategies

· Ability to multitask in a fast-paced environment with ever-evolving IT projects

· Exhibits strong communication skills

·

· Comfortable working as part of a team of other developers and systems engineers to meet various sprint and project deadlines

Desired Skills:

· Basic understanding of machine learning

· Knowledge of working with Databricks

· Experience with engineering/DevOps tools (i.e. Jenkins)

Education: Bachelor’s degree in a technical discipline preferred – Computer Science, Mathematics, or equivalent technical degree, or the equivalent combination of education, professional training, and work experience.

Location: Reston, VA – Currently fully remote due to COVID -19.

Clearance: Must be a US Citizen and be able to obtain a government agency Suitability Clearance.
