Duties

  • You will perform routine operational maintenance (e.g., cleans burners, oils and greases moving parts, pack valves and pumps, cleans oil strainers, etc.).
  • You will operate and repair high pressure boiler, cooling, and dehumidifying equipment systems to maintain operational efficiency.
  • You will measure pipe, joint, and valve sizes for piping and boiler systems.
  • You will interpret drawings and work instructions to determine the parts and equipment needed to repair boiler plant and air conditioning systems.

  • Incumbent must be able to obtain and maintain cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) certification.
  • You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift.


Qualifications

Although a specific length of time and experience is not required for most trade and labor occupations, you must show through experience and training that you possess the quality level of knowledge and skill necessary to perform the duties of the position at the level for which you are applying. Qualification requirements emphasis is on quality of experience, not necessarily the length of time.

Your resume must also demonstrate the following specialized experience: THE ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF AN UTILITY SYSTEMS REPAIRER OPERATOR WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION INCLUDING: (1) operating semi-automatic gas/oil fired high pressure boilers and auxiliary equipment (e.g., electric feed water and fuel pumps, electric driven forced draft fans, air compressors, water softening, and de-aerating equipment); 2) adjusting fuel feed controls; and 3) changing from gas to oil.

Physical Effort: Light to medium physical effort is required to observe and adjust equipment. Work requires frequent standing, stooping,
walking and climbing. Frequently works in awkward or cramped position when performing maintenance work. Frequently lifts and carries tools, equipment and supplies weighing up to 80 pounds.

Working Conditions: Work is performed indoors and outdoors. Incumbent will be exposed to extreme temperatures, smoke, dirt, noise,
unpleasant odors, toxic fumes, scot, toxic dust, water, fuel oil, chemicals and all types of weather conditions. Work may result in bruises, burns, etc., from steam, heat, chemicals or machinery.
