Job Announcement

Works as a part of our Solid Waste Management Program. Provides hands-on, technical support to monitor, operate and maintain environmental infrastructure at the I-95 and I-66 landfills, with an emphasis on leachate pumping infrastructure, landfill gas management systems and stormwater management facilities. Operates small construction equipment such as backhoe, skid steer, and forklift. Interpret maps and engineering plans. Gathers and analyzes monitoring data, and evaluate equipment performance to inform operation, maintenance, and repairs. Identifies requirements and specifications necessary to repair and replace equipment and infrastructure. Maintains files and records to support environmental compliance requirements. Makes simple computations to determine the type and quantities of construction materials and equipment. Researches and evaluates new equipment for potential application at the landfill and maintain supplies. Designs simple structures. Engages in and adhere to Solid Waste Management safe working practices and comply with the DPWES Safety Competencies.

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to high school graduation or a GED issued by a state department of education; plus, three years of engineering technical support work.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
  • A valid driver's license.
  • Class II Waste Management Facilities Operator's License - (Training required within 18 months of hire.)
  • OSHA-Approved Confined Space Training - 16 Hour Course - within 6 months of hire.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check and driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. At least five years experience in construction, operation and maintenance of this infrastructure or ability to transfer mechanical aptitude .
  2. Five years of experience constructing, operating, or maintaining landfill systems.
  3. Two years experience maintaining and monitoring gas wells.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to stand, stoop, bend, stretch, walk, climb, sit, kneel, crouch, reach, crawl and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions. Manual strength and dexterity needed to lift and handle equipment and material weighing up to 25 pounds without assistance or 25 to 50 pounds with or without assistance. Ability to input, access, and retrieve information from a computer. Ability to perform repetitive hand, arm, wrist and shoulder movements. Ability to access tight spaces by crawling, reaching, and stooping. Able to enter confined spaces and wear any safety gear needed for entry. Ability to walk, negotiate or traverse property sites that may be undergoing construction or having terrain that is not level. Work requires performing tasks in adverse weather conditions and temperatures. Work requires performing tasks in an environment in which raw waste is present. Ability to operate a vehicle in the performance of duties. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
