Facilities Supervisor

An Overview
Under general supervision of the Division Chief of Facilities the Facilities Supervisor is responsible for supervising the maintenance, repair and alteration of public buildings and equipment, city-wide. The Facilities Supervisor is also responsible for estimates of labor and material costs, the preparation of plans, and the quality of skilled and non-skilled workmanship on all building and building equipment repairs, remodeling and new construction. They may oversee the operation and maintenance of boilers and auxiliary equipment. Supervision is exercised over a small to moderate sized crew.

The ideal candidate should have technical and operational Facilities Management with experience of mechanical systems (HVAC, Lighting and BMS systems). The ability to coordinate routine responsibilities of staff and resources, present self in a highly professional manner to others and communicate with co-workers and other departments with professionalism and respect. Minimum & Additional Requirements
Completion of high-school-level courses in arithmetic and English, supplemented by trade or vocational school technical courses in maintenance procedures and standards and considerable experience in building construction and maintenance work, including some experience in a position equivalent to a Building Systems Technician, or any equivalent combination of experience and training which provides the required knowledge, skills and abilities.
Preferred Qualifications
Two-Year College Degree in related field; thorough knowledge of building construction methods, practices, materials, and codes; experience in the of planning of new construction; ability to draft specifications for construction work; experience inspecting, supervising and coordinating the work of others. Minimum of five years of supervisory experience in building facilities maintenance. Extensive use of the Microsoft Office Suite; Experience working in local, state or Federal Government environment.

This position requires the successful completion of pre-employment background checks including but not limited to drug testing, criminal background.
Must posses the ability to lift objects over 44 pounds; ability to stand for long periods of time; ability to pull, push, reach above shoulders, repeated bending, crawling and climbing; frequent walking indoors and outdoors; ability to perform work in adverse work conditions.
The Department of General Services (DGS) is a first response department and as such all DGS employees are deemed essential or emergency personnel and maybe required to report to work when the City government is open with liberal leave or closed during emergencies.
Outside of general business hours the Facilities Supervisor schedule may include possible evening and weekend hours as required.

The Opportunity - Examples of Work
- Plans, organizes, supervises, inspects and evaluates the work of building maintenance crews involved in performing HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire systems, SECURITY EMS systems;
- Inspect and manage building maintenance needs and ensure the facility meets regulatory standards and codes.
- Reviews plans and specifications and makes recommendations as to maintenance and operation of new facilities prior to and during construction;
- Receives and investigates emergency calls including electrical plumbing, HVAC, fire systems and Security Systems, alarm systems, Emergency Generators, etc.;
- Operates and maintains CCTV and Security systems ;
- Oversee building operations to ensure efficient use of resources and compliance with regulations;
- Oversee all building contracts;
- Provide excellent tenant service. Respond to tenant requests/problems in a timely and courteous manner, manage and generate work orders directed to maintenance staff.
- Conduct periodic inspections of the property and tenant spaces to ensure compliance with building policies and proper upkeep.
- Performs related work as required.
