The AARP Michigan State Office in Lansing, MI, is seeking a Community Outreach Intern beginning June 2023. This intern will support our Community Outreach Team in planning, coordinating, and implementing education and outreach strategies in Michigan.

Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA)
AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as telecommuting workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work and telecommuting can only be done within the United States and its territories.
Compensation and Benefits
The hourly range is $18 for undergraduates, $21 for graduate students, $28 for Ph.D. candidates. Internships are non-exempt positions and are not eligible for employee benefits.

Responsibilities
- Communicating and engaging with various individuals and groups
- Evaluating volunteer management strategies and systems
- Assisting in evaluation and assessing metrics of activities
- Providing support for events, campaigns, and initiatives
- Supporting and managing community and statewide events
Qualifications
- The ideal candidate will be currently enrolled in a degree program at an accredited college or university; be considered a rising undergraduate junior or senior, graduate student, or post-doctoral student; and remain academically enrolled throughout the internship
- Pursuing a degree in communications, marketing, journalism, or related fields
- Candidate must be skilled at critical thinking and problem solving
- Experience in working with diverse communities
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Independent and team worker
- Intermediate to advanced proficiency in Microsoft Office and Social Media platforms
- Commitment to up to 30 hours/week

- Independent judgement in evaluation options to make sound decisions
- In office/open office environment with the ability to work effectively surrounded by moderate noise
- Ability to occasionally lift up to 25 pounds
