Summary

The Hosting Services Branch directs and manages the provision of hosting solutions to FAA clients at one of the four on-premise data centers, two at William J Hughes Technical Center and two at the Mike Monroney Aeronautical Center.

Duties

The Branch provides cloud services and migration options as part of FAA mandate to move to the cloud. Other Compute and Storage solutions exist in field offices. The Branch also supports hosting of file share resources for FAA field shares. We provide the following infrastructure services both remotely managed and/or hosted:
  • Web hosting
  • Environmental hosting
  • Storage Solutions
  • Virtual Compute options
  • Infrastructure Architectural Consulting
  • Disaster Recovery Services
  • Operating System Management
  • Server Management
  • Virtualization, we manage and administer the virtual infrastructure within the enterprise.
  • Storage & Backup
  • F5 Support.

You will serve as an Operating System RedHat Linux (SME) and system administrator for the AIF-420 Department; You will help lead ongoing cyber-hygiene, installation, patching and other services which involve the operation of the host operating system. You will be working with the core storage and compute technologies, this includes Nutanix, Vmware, Thales Encryption, Isilon, Vmax, DataDomain, Unity and Netapp platforms. Provide support for server and application support requirements around compute and storage requirements.

You will serve as a Department operating system administrator; Responsible for the assistance with Setup, Configuration, and Maintenance of hosting Compute solutions nationwide. You will be a key member of the Vmware-Compute team and Cloud Teams; Coordinate with server & application stakeholders to create and maintain efficient hosting systems. Provide technical support to server teams and work with vendors to ensure highly maintained hosting systems. Identify and plan for migrations of compute and storage to other locations, backup, and migration from older to newer platforms. You will be part of DevOps team which builds automated solutions for deploying operating systems on-prem and in the cloud.

If you are selected for this position your duties will include but are not limited to: 1.) Server System administration for the Hosting Branch, participating in building efficient storage and compute systems nationwide. 2.) Support tools administrator, responsible for the Setup, Configuration, and Maintenance of storage, encryption, replication and compute nationwide 3.) Coordinating with server teams stakeholders to create and maintain efficient compute infrastructure. 4.) Providing technical support to customers, server administrators and vendors for systems migrating, patching or repairing related to compute and storage solutions. 5.) Participation in automation technology utilizing server compute or storage solutions. 6) Conveying technical and non-technical information to various audiences. 7) Know and provide guidance for Fiber storage interfaces, and Network communication equipment related to Compute and storage solutions. 8) Participating and developing solutions to protect and efficiently deploy operating system technologies.

In addition to the above you will: 1.) Ensure the replacement of failed in-warranty equipment within the Storage and Computer environment. 2.) Work with vendors to ensure quotes are accurate, and coordinate with S&P to ensure products are purchased before the end of the maintenance period of performance.

To qualify for this position you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to FV-I / FG/GS-13. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position.

Specialized experience is: Experience leading and maintaining large deployments of RedHat Linux based operation systems, associated storage systems and experience keeping systems operational within change control and documentation requirements.
