AARP's Integrated Communications and Marketing (ICM) Group includes Membership, Content and Editorial, Customer Experience, External Relations, Brand Strategy and Strategic Communications. Across paid, earned, shared and owned channels, ICM manages AARP's reputation, drives engagement and member growth, and showcases AARP's mission and value through one, integrated voice.

The Associate Editor participates in the preparation of written or scripted features content for and other digital platforms. Duties include editing, revising and rewriting content in accordance with established procedures and style. Additionally, the role is responsible for publishing content on the organization's website using a content management system, in accordance with deadlines and technical requirements. Additional tasks include but not limited to curating, editing and producing content for external newsletters and social media copy to promote the work of the department.


  • Conceives, reports, and writes high-quality content for digital, print, and other platforms that is appealing to a 50+ audience and furthers the organization's core priorities and mission.
  • Employs digital analytics tools and resources to identify topics of interest to a 50+ audience and evaluate the performance of content after publication.
  • Plans, creates, and delivers written materials to improve readability, quality, accuracy, and overall content.
  • Works with other team members, including writers, editors, project managers, subject matter experts, marketing and outreach directors, and senior executives to create and deliver timely, high quality, and relevant content.
  • Collaborates with internal stakeholders and other partners to identify content needs to further the organization's core priorities and mission.
  • Enters content into the content publishing system, monitors workflow, and collaborates with production staff to ensure published content is accurate, appealing, and adheres to publishing best practices.
  • Stays current on the organization's core priorities and monitors key developments of interest to a 50+ audience in assigned coverage areas.


  • Bachelor's degree and 3+ years of experience writing and editing in the journalism or media industries.
  • 3+ years of digital publishing experience, using content management systems.
  • Highly organized with keen attention to detail.
  • Ability to conduct journalistic interviews is preferred.

Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA)

AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as telecommuting workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work and telecommuting can only be done within the United States and its territories.
