Summary

Serves as an Engineering Technician (Drafting Coordinator) for Air Traffic Organization, Technical Operations, Air Traffic Control Facilities, Engineering Services.

Duties

Duties at the G-band Level:

Performs a mix of routine and varying assignments associated with analyzing, installing, repairing, fabricating, or trouble-shooting electronic, electrical, and mechanical systems and components. Understands how assigned systems, components, and disciplines are integrated with other systems, components, and disciplines. Collects and records data/information; conducts research; identifies problems; and assist higher-level professionals in day-to-day operations. Serves as a contributor and manages all drafting request packages utilizing the FAA's Drafting Tracker Software and ProjectWise (Electronic Document Management System). Applies experience with established Computer Aided Drafting software, AutoCAD and MicroStation. Coordinates with a manager, team leader, or more experienced professional to plan time and use assigned resources to accomplish tasks.

Work contributes to the activities of the organizational unit and supports activities that are critical to the safe and continual operation of the NAS, FAA aircraft, and/or FAA academic programs. Contacts are both internal and external. Contacts are made to share information, provide data, furnish technical guidance, and discuss the statuses of assignments.

Reviews drafting package submissions and cost estimates identifying the level of effort required by the drafting team. Requests approval from Drafting Work Release point of contact (POC) for acceptance before work can commence. Coordinates, supports resources and priorities for all drafting work associated with engineering projects. Regularly updates engineers of drafting status. Coordinates workload with other regions in WSA as needed.

Provides professional interface with A&E firms and other outside sources on matters concerning drafting deliverables. Ensures quality control standards are adhered to for all products in and out of drafting. Coordinates additional outside support as required. Tracks drafting production and services for drafting.

Performs routine assignments independently, receiving little or no technical guidance. Supervisor furnishes general instructions on the scope of work, time limitations, and priorities. Technical manuals, manufacturers' instructions, FAA procedures, and other publications provide guidance for most assignments. Some judgment is required in selecting the most appropriate approach. Independently performs routine assignments. Work is reviewed to an extent consistent with the complexity of the assignment. Provides drafting work packages to contracting drafting lead for work assignment. Ensures drafting work gets completed by Date Promised; otherwise, directs work to other drafters as needed. Returns completed drafting work to engineers and closes out drafting packages. Works with various Engineering Services platforms to clear as-built exceptions. Ensures drawings get signed by engineers and managers and uploaded into ProjectWise. Supervisors, team leaders, or more experienced technicians are available to provide guidance.

Duties at the H-band Level: Includes the above as well as the following:

Receives general work assignments from a supervisor. Uses own judgment, experience, and knowledge to solve problems and complete assignments. Plans and organizes work to accomplish organizational objectives. Technical manuals, manufacturers' instructions, FAA policies and procedures, and other publications provide guidance for some assignments. In many cases, guidance is inadequate or incomplete, requiring the technician to develop solutions based on knowledge of the discipline and past experience. May develop guidelines for the use of other technicians. Independently performs assignments. Completed work is reviewed to an extent consistent with the complexity of the assignment.

Qualifications

To qualify for this position at the FV-G level, you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the FV-F/FG-GS-9 level. This experience is typically related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been at least equivalent to the next lower level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.

To qualify for this position at the FV-H level, you must demonstrate in your application that you possess at least one year of specialized experience equivalent to the FV-G/FG-10/11 level. This experience is typically related to the line of work of the position to be filled and which has equipped the applicant with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the duties of the position. To be creditable, specialized experience must have been at least equivalent to the next lower level in the normal line of progression for the occupation in the organization.

Specialized experience for both FV-G and FV-H level includes: Experience with established drafting software (i.e. MicroStation-or AutoCAD). Skill in communicating effectively with individuals or groups.

This position may be filled at the FV-G or FV-H level. If filled at the FV-G level, this announcement does not constitute a commitment or an obligation on the part of management to promote the employee selected at some future date. Promotion will depend upon the selectee meeting all training, qualification requirements, and recommendation by the supervisor.

Working Conditions of Employment. You must be able to perform efficiently the essential functions of the position without hazard to yourself or others. Work assignments can be physical and strenuous in nature. You may also be required to lift and/or carry objects up to 30 pounds, as well as climb ladders, walking up several flights of stairs, working on elevated surfaces and/or work in unusual or uncomfortable body positions or environmental conditions. Some positions involve work that must be performed outdoors during various weather conditions. There is a potential for shift work, i.e., nights, weekends and rotating shifts. You may be required to travel up to 50% of the time.
