Direct hiring authority for 1560 series is being used to fill this position.
Duties
This series includes professional positions which primarily involve work related to identifying the methods, processes, algorithms, tools, and systems to extract and interpret findings from varied structured and unstructured data sets related to the data science lifecycle. Work also involves the development of algorithms and/or tools to support data manipulation and processing as well as the use of data visualization techniques to articulate findings. The primary requirements of the work are applying professional knowledge of computer science and mathematical and statistical theories, techniques, and methods to gather, analyze, design and construct new processes for modeling, interpret, and/or report quantitative information, trends, relationships and correlations among or within data sets.

BASIC REQUIREMENT: A. Degree: Mathematics, statistics, computer science, data science or field directly related to the position. The degree must be in a major field of study (at least at the baccalaureate level) that is appropriate for the position. or B. Combination of education and experience: Courses equivalent to a major field of study (30 semester hours) as shown in paragraph A above, plus additional education or appropriate experience.
In addition to the above basic requirements:
FV-H. To qualify at this level, you must demonstrate possession of at least 1 year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the FV-G (FG/GS-05-09) level. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized Experience may include but is not limited to: Experience analyzing, collecting and recording data related to the effectiveness and accuracy of new data sources and data gathering techniques while ensuring compliance with policy.
OR Education; Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree or 3 full years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.
FV-I. To qualify at this level, you must demonstrate possession of at least 1 year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the FV-I (FG/GS 10-12) level. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience may include but is not limited to: Experience collecting, recording and analyzing data/information; experience with mathematical, statistical studies, and analysis of varying amounts of information to discover trends and patterns for solving problems.
FV-J. To qualify at this level, you must demonstrate possession of at least 1 year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the FV-I (FG/GS-13) level. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience may include but is not limited to: Experience includes applying operational safety and oversight data, data integration, analysis, visualization, and socialization of safety information that resolve complex technical and organizational issues; experience identifying the methods, processes, algorithms, tools, and systems to extract and interpret findings from varied structured and unstructured data sets related to the data science lifecycle.
FV-K. To qualify at this level, you must demonstrate possession of at least 1 year (52 weeks) of specialized experience equivalent to the FV-J (FG/GS-14) level. Specialized experience is experience that has equipped you with the particular knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of the position. Specialized experience may include but is not limited to: Experience using statistical modeling techniques such as regression, classification, and anomaly detection to analyze various datasets from the aviation industry; experience leading teams of technical experts tasked to originate new ideas, projects, and methodologies; experience with aviation related data, data integration, analysis, visualization, and socialization of safety information.
