Job Description

The Events Group Director is a leader on the Washington Post Live and Events Group teams who focuses on overseeing the infrastructure, production and logistics for Washington Post Live programs, the live journalism division of The Post, as well as all internal and company events that take place in The Post's D.C. headquarters. This person will provide a vision for executing live events and programs with innovation and efficiency, manage a large team that includes logistics and engineering/production managers, technicians, and coordinators, and build the framework for any events that take place outside of The Post's live events venue in the nation's capital. He or she will oversee and refine the policies, processes, and tools to streamline dozens of in-person events throughout the year (and hundreds of virtual events), manage event budgets (domestic and international) and drive reporting and analytics to communicate results while providing critical decision-making as it relates to events across the organization.

Responsibilities
  • Oversee event production and logistics for Washington Post Live, the live journalism division of The Washington Post, including in-person events in Washington, D.C., across the U.S. and in international markets, plus hundreds of virtual programs throughout the year
  • Supervise event production and logistics for other events and functions (largely internal) that take place in the Washington Post Live Center, an unparalleled event venue in Washington, D.C.
  • Create and maintain event strategy and vision with innovation and cost efficiency while reflecting The Post's mission and core values. Collaborate and act as a partner to other company stakeholders.
  • Lead, empower and motivate a large team of managers, technicians and coordinators who provide logistical and technical support to large-scale events on site and up to three virtual events a day
  • Oversee event budgets and RFP vendor process, particularly for events outside of D.C. and international (several events a year), and internal event guidelines for use of D.C. headquarters venue
  • Drive continued efficiency and communication to meet deadlines and overall event and company goals


Qualifications
  • 7-10+ years of managing multiple, multi-faceted large-scale events required
  • Proven track record of managing events in multiple venues, especially in various markets, and complex budgets
  • Ability to lead and motivate a large, collaborative, fast-paced team
  • Analytical and creative mindset
  • Exceptional organizational skills; extreme orientation to detail
  • Gracefulness under pressure and deadlines; must be able to manage multiple projects at once
  • Ability to work easily with internal and external partners
  • Good negotiation skills; resourcefulness
