Job Description

The Washington Post is seeking an experienced administrator to support newsroom operations. This job is focused equally on a wide range of operational issues in our Washington newsroom as well as duties revolving around newsroom employees based at our hubs in London and Seoul.

This administrator must be comfortable working in a fast-moving news organization that operates 24/7 from a variety of locations and time zones. This role requires attention to detail but also creativity and a curiosity to find ways to connect with and support journalists in a newsroom expanding both stateside and across the world.

Responsibilities:
  • Be a first point-of-contact for employees at our two global hubs. Coordinate with newsroom managers as well as partners in HR, Finance, Global Mobility, Legal and other departments on issues affecting staff based abroad.
  • Streamline and execute processes around the constantly evolving operations of a growing newsroom.
  • Help develop organizational structure around international security issues, including training, gear, online threats and communication with the Post Security team.
  • Assist with budget issues, from long-range planning to expense reports.
  • Assist with scheduling, particularly within the context of recruiting and onboarding.

Please consider applying if you meet most of these requirements:
  • Experience in operations or finance, especially in a news organization.
  • Exceptional organizational abilities and an eagerness to create structure, workflow and best practices around disparate processes.
  • High levels of independence and self-sufficiency in managing all duties and responsibilities.
  • A collaborative mindset and a demonstrated ability to work with reporters, videographers, photographers and editors.
  • Strong communication skills and a track record of communicating with a diverse portfolio of stakeholders.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and Adobe Acrobat.
  • Strong interest in and desire to be part of a fast-paced, global news organization.

This position is based in our Washington newsroom and will involve early morning work.

Candidates should upload a résumé and a cover letter outlining their experience and interest in the role to our jobs portal. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled, but those received by 05/22/2023 will be prioritized. Your cover letter should be addressed to Deputy Managing Editor of News Operations and Planning Liz Seymour.
