Performance Measurement & Business Analysis (PMBA) is responsible for aligning enterprise-wide metrics, analysis, reporting and performance measurement tools to drive AARP's strategic and operating performance. PMBA includes a Business Optimization team that provides consulting and advisory services to projects and initiatives where there is an enterprise-wide impact, unknown root cause and/or complex stakeholder interactions.

As a Business Analyst Intern, you will apply strategic, analytical, and creative thinking to solve challenging business problems. On any given day, you could be working with analytics and analysis professionals and AARP Executives, focusing on solutions to the most important problems to ensure we meet the needs of the organization and advance the AARP mission to support the 50+ community.   • Meet with key leaders and learn how we help AARP to achieve its goals
  • Provide analytical support focused on understanding business performance insight and market performance dynamics
  • Support projects that are focused on developing and refining strategies through the use of analytics
  • Collaborate with others in different roles to collect and organize data (Databricks / MS Excel / SQL / Tableau / Adobe Analytics)
  • Provide extensive business case analyses across the entire organization to evaluate new business and social mission initiatives and help guide the best way to invest program funds
  • Provide recommendations and insights to internal clients - communicating analytical results to non-financial audiences in a clear and concise format


  • Currently pursuing a bachelor's or higher with an expectation that the degree will be obtained by August 2024 or earlier
  • Currently enrolled in a degree-seeking program related to math, statistics, scientific computing, data and analytics, business analytics, marketing, or a related field
  • Critical thinking and analytical skills
  • Ability to articulate complex technical issues to those not as experienced
  • Proven analytical skills, and excellent written and oral communication abilities
  • Advanced user of Excel, PowerPoint, and Word
  • Experience with popular business tools (Windows, Office Professional, Visio, SharePoint, etc.)
  • Experience with SQL, Python, and/or R preferred
  • Must be available to participate in the intern program from June to August, working 40 hours a week and on-site at our Washington, DC, headquarters Tuesdays through Thursdays

Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA)

AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as telecommuting workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work and telecommuting can only be done within the United States and its territories.

Compensation and Benefits

The hourly range is $18 for undergraduates, $21 for graduate students, $28 for Ph.D. candidates. Internships are non-exempt positions and are not eligible for employee benefits.
