AARP's Community, State and National Affairs (CSN) Group includes Government Relations, Programs, Volunteer Engagement, Community Outreach and Advocacy at the federal, state and local levels. The Project Manager executes large and complex projects that support the achievement of organizational strategic priorities. Determines resources needed, tracks budgets, determines scope, tracks progress towards milestones, establishes timelines, and evaluates progress. Manages project teams including internal and external stakeholders and vendors to deliver on project goals. Establishes project communication plans and ensures internal and external stakeholders are informed regarding project processes and impact. Collaborates with management to identify opportunities to streamline processes and develop new procedures that support the business unit/department.

Responsibilities

  • Manages all aspects of large and complex projects that align with the strategic priorities of the organization. Oversees all aspects of project management including project charter development, project scope development, project schedules, project costs, deliverable quality, human and material resource management, risk management, procurement, communications, and stakeholder engagement.
  • Updates and maintains associated project management processes, including creating and implementing work plans, and helps to develop and implement new and evolving business processes.
  • Manages financial and procurement elements of projects, to include collaboration with and management of vendor Master Services Agreements and/or Statements of Work as necessary.
  • Reports on the status of projects to senior management to convey all elements of project status and the impact and results of work.
  • Oversees the execution of administrative tasks as necessary, such as calendaring, organizing meetings, processing expense reimbursements, maintaining contact lists, and assisting with travel arrangements.
  • Leads operational and/or logistical support for AARP programs and/or services.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • 3+ years of experience in a similar role.
  • Certified Associate in Project Management (CAPM) or a Project Management Professional (PMP) certification preferred
  • Experience in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Ability to utilize project management skills to manage scope, resources and risks to ensure timely delivery.
  • Ability to understand, analyze, and solve business problems using technology.
  • Solid analytics skills, including critical thinking, and system, process and data analysis in support of fact-based decision making.
  • Ability to communicate tactfully and professionally, with and between, various levels of staff and stakeholders.
  • Solid multi-tasking skills with a comfort in maintaining multiple, often conflicting, priorities.
    Ability to work both autonomously and within multi-functional teams with initiative and accountability.
  • Demonstrated experience producing highly effective executive communications for use in a variety of channels (Executives, Leadership and Messaging to 500+ staff).
  • Prior business analysis experience in both waterfall and agile methodologies preferred.

Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA)

AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as telecommuting workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work and telecommuting can only be done within the United States and its territories.
