The Washington Post is looking for a Senior Engineer to improve the search rankings of our critical content initiatives. We must continually adapt to new features, standards, and opportunities in search engine optimization. This requires a specialist who can guide our approach.
This person will make recommendations and be able to implement those recommendations in our rendering, publishing, and delivery tiers. They will consult with the newsroom on keyword strategy and link building. This person will research and analyze competitors and should be aware of tools to do this.

Under limited supervision, the Senior Software Engineer performs technical analysis, design and development or enhancement of applications based on user requirements in a variety of technical environments. The Senior Software Engineer demonstrates expertise in a broad range of related technologies, provides guidance to other team members, and participates in setting Engineering's development standards and best practices. The Senior Software Engineer demonstrates a high level of expertise in all facets of the and is often involved in large and/or complex assignments.

Responsibilities:
- Leads efforts to solve complex SEO problems, moves quickly to implement ideas and deliver results.
- Performs technical SEO audits, investigates logs, and makes relevant recommendations, both technical and editorial.
- Provides regular reporting and benchmarking for our website and distributes findings to leadership and other teams as needed.
- Dives into issues and incidents as they occur, helps resolve or escalate them and drives them to resolution.
- Gives accurate estimates for delivery of features.
- Stays abreast of updates in search engine algorithms, competitive landscape, and the industry to develop winning strategies.
- Writes detailed specifications when appropriate.
- Researches available technologies outside of the company and recommends appropriate design solutions.
- As a member of the project team, contributes to project scope definition activities, provides input to project plan development, prototypes high-risk project tasks, and advises on complex technical issues
- Successfully carries out assignments that are technically large or complex or have extensive or complex business implications.
