Are you a student seeking to put into practice your solid digital multimedia, social media, business, and people skills? Do you have a passion for social media trends and good storytelling? Can you work collaboratively and independently, take the initiative, be flexible with a daily changing pace, and all while maintaining a positive attitude? Then AARP's Studios is looking for you! Utilizing our state-of-the-art broadcast, greenscreen, and recording studios, our mission is to create rich and compelling digital social media video content for all AARP's social media channels that aim to educate, entertain, and inspire all generations. We also produce a weekly award-winning podcast and occasional documentaries. As a Digital Multimedia intern, we'll challenge you daily to think creatively while working closely with our talented Producers, Video Editors, Graphic Artists, and Studios Leadership. While supporting the team in creating content to advance the AARP mission, you will be honing hands-on experience and the skills needed to succeed in every changing digital landscape. This internship has an anticipated start date of Summer 2023 and will go through the end of the year.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with and support Digital Multimedia Producers, associate producers, editors, and Post supervisors with projects as needed, including story and footage research, deliverables, shoots, and archiving
  • Ideate headlines and short descriptions and select potential thumbnails that instantly tell the story of the video
  • Watch existing content to suggest, write and edit together potential YouTube Shorts for our channel
  • Maintain an organized project from start to finish for easy navigation and file retrieval for current and future needs
  • Work to improve the success of a video by having a keen sense of current social media trends and execution
  • Apply knowledge of different platforms to transfer footage and review cuts for sharing and cross-posting across all of our social media platforms
  • Collaborate with management to establish and implement best practices, including knowledge of new techniques, formats, and software to improve day-to-day workflow
  • Work with cross-functional teams to finalize video content and deliverables of that content
  • Implement communication plans and ensures internal/external stakeholders are informed regarding project processes and impact

Qualifications

  • The ideal candidate will currently be enrolled in a degree program at an accredited college/university, rising undergraduate juniors or seniors, or graduate students, and remain academically enrolled throughout the internship or must have previously graduated from college and enrolled in a continuing education program
  • Adept with social media, social media trends, platforms, and analytics
  • Proficient in Adobe Premiere and some Adobe After Effects
  • Solid experience in Photoshop is a plus
  • Excellent writing and communication skills with the ability to multitask and maintain a variety of projects and work with varying production styles
  • Highly organized project management, with exceptional attention to details
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively as a part of a team
  • A proactive self-starter and adaptable with the ability to work under tight deadlines

Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA)

AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as telecommuting workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work and telecommuting can only be done within the United States and its territories.

Compensation and Benefits

The hourly range is $18 for undergraduates, $21 for graduate students, and $28 for Ph.D. candidates. Internships are non-exempt positions and are not eligible for employee benefits.
