Job Summary

The Accessibility Design Review Manager is responsible for reviewing engineering and architectural designs of new and modified facilities, production designs of new or refurbished vehicles and equipment for accessibility content. The scope also ensures compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) as well as all other applicable accessibly laws and regulatory guidance.

Essential Functions
  • Manages ADAP design review of new and modified facilities, new and refurbished vehicles and equipment for accessibility content.
  • The review ensures compliance with the ADA, all other regulations, building codes, regulatory standards, and with Metro's facility and design standards.
  • Collaborates with engineers to research, analyze, and/or resolve complex accessibility design issues discovered during the review process.
  • Provides guidance and recommendations on ADAP acceptance of post construction and/or procurement of facilities and equipment per approved plans.
  • Provides expert accessibility compliance assistance to all Metro departments, and in response to external inquires.
  • Provides timely comments, recommending ADAP approvals, and reviewing of entire submittals.

Other Functions
  • Remains current on all applicable facility and design requirements.
  • Contributes to and supports the Department of Access Services (ACCS) Business Plan and the execution of WMATA's strategic plan.
  • Leads ADAP review of Adjacent Construction, Joint Development, accessible pathway, bike, livable community, and pedestrian signalization initiatives.
  • Maintains and catalogs all design standards required in Metro construction for reference during solicitations and work with contractors.
  • Manages project charting and schedule status for all accessibility content on current projects.
  • Participates in public meetings or hearings to explain planning proposals, to gather feedback from those affected by projects, or to achieve consensus on project designs. Prepares and update the WMATA ADA Checklist for construction contracts.
  • Provides support in responding to high level complaints from the Federal Transit Administration, Department of Justice, Metro's Board of Directors, and local governing bodies.
  • Represents ACCS engineering accessibility interests in inter-disciplinary reviews at Metro's Real Estate Committee (REC) or on any pending project not before the REC. Reviews and prepares comments on upcoming regulations by the US Access Board.
  • Works with Metro's engineers, architects, and planners to project completion.
  • Works with the Director ADAP, the Planning Manager, the Director Eligibility Certification and Outreach, and Director MetroAccess, and Metro Departments to support and improve and implement Metro's internal accessibility policies.
