Fairfax County Health Department's Maternal Child Health (MCH) Program offers two home visiting programs: MCH Field and Nurse Family Partnership. Multiple full-time Maternal Child Health Home Visiting Public Health Nurse II positions may be filled from this announcement for assignment to one of the home visiting programs at multiple District Office locations.

Provides home visiting services to high-risk pregnant women, infants, and children in accordance with the specific home visiting program model. Helps transform the lives of vulnerable families using a multidisciplinary approach to improve pregnancy outcomes, child health and development, and family economic self-sufficiency. Applies public health nursing principles of case-finding, health promotion, anticipatory guidance and education, case management and disease prevention. Identifies, screens, and assesses clients for health risks and implements public health nursing interventions that focus on positive pregnancy and infant/child health outcomes. Provides parenting education, child health and development screening, evaluation and consultation. Possesses knowledge of community resources and refers clients as necessary. Collaborates with other professionals to assure appropriate care is provided, coordinates multi-disciplinary services, and supports families in attaining their targeted goals.

* This position includes a signing bonus for fully qualified new county employees in the amount of $5,000.

Health Department positions are designated as Emergency First Responder. Based on the emergency response deployment needs, this position may be deployed to support the emergency response service needs.

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Graduation from a college or university accredited by the National League for Nursing or the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education with a bachelor's degree in Nursing; plus one year post-licensure nursing experience.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
  • Possession of current license or a multistate licensure privilege to practice as a Registered Nurse in the Commonwealth of Virginia.
  • Driver's License.
  • AED-Required within 60 days.
  • CPR -Required within 60 days.


PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Demonstrates excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal abilities to communicate effectively and clearly with a diverse population.
  • Ability to establish and maintain collaborative connections with internal and external partners.
  • Work independently and on interdisciplinary teams.
  • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite and other software applications.
  • One year of experience preferred in home visiting case management in a public health/community setting serving culturally diverse families.


NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, a sanction screening, a check of the Child Protective Services Registry, and a driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Employee is required to walk, stand, sit, bend, stoop, kneel, reach, climb stairs and carry equipment or young children up to 25 pounds in weight. Uses hands to grasp, handle or feel. Visual acuity is required to read data on a computer monitor. Ability to operate keyboard driven equipment. Ability to drive a vehicle. Position frequently communicates and must be able to exchange accurate information with others verbally and in writing. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
