Job Announcement

Performs the daily payment proposal run to pay county obligations. Reviews and reconciles the proposal and payments daily, ensuring required documentation is retained in accordance with county policy. Coordinates with division, department, and agency finance personnel for authorization, payment issues, check/ACH/wire issuance, and special handling needs. Assists with additional accounts payable processes as needed including invoice processing, invoice posting, retainage release, and reversing payment issuances. Supervises staff in the Accounts Payable sections engaged in daily check runs, payment issue resolutions, customer service email boxes, and returned checks. Possesses strong customer service skills as position works daily with internal and external customers.

Note: The telework policy for this position allows teleworking up to 40% of the weekly working schedule which generally equates to a maximum of 2 days a week teleworking and at least 3 days a week in the office at the Fairfax County Government Center in Fairfax, VA.

Salary offer will not exceed the mid-point of the salary range $72,561.84.

General Financial Duties
  • Develops financial reports and data analyses for use by analysts/managers.
Accounting
  • Approves/authorizes wire transfers.
  • Performs unique accounting functions that have countywide impact.
Communication
  • Gathers data and composes concise executive summaries.
  • Writes technical and non-technical correspondence, and/or presentation materials.
Office Management
  • Provides information and participates in the development of in-house policies within the functional area.
Reports
  • Researches and analyzes information to identify trends, draws conclusions, makes recommendations.

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience and training equivalent to an associate degree and five years of experience providing administrative support in the assigned functional area(s).

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background and credit check to the satisfaction of the employer prior to hire and periodically thereafter, as determined by the department head. Applicants and employees within these select positions must demonstrate financial responsibility in personal finances as a condition of employment.. This position is emergency/essential services personnel. (Required to report for duty during inclement weather and/or other emergencies.)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  • Experience with Accounts Payable and applying financial policies.
  • Experience with analyzing transactions.
  • Proficient on Enterprise Resource Planning (ERP) systems, in particular SAP.
  • Experience reviewing transactions initiated by others in a detail-oriented fashion.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Ability to prioritize several activities in progress at one time.
  • Innovative individual motivated by continual change.
  • Ability to work effectively with minimal supervision, prioritize multiple tasks, and work in a fast-paced, high-volume environment.
  • Acceptance of responsibility and taking initiative to ensure accomplishment of the core missions.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite applications including Excel, Word, and Outlook.
  • Demonstrated experience processing and analyzing complex financial transactions.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Job is generally sedentary in nature. Ability to read data on computer monitor, operate keyboard driven equipment, communicate with others, and lift up to 15 lbs. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
