The Metro Transit Police Department (MTPD) is responsible for the enforcement of laws, regulations, and ordinances for crimes committed on, to, or against facilities owned, controlled, or operated by the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority.

The Metro Transit Police Department has tristate jurisdiction and operates in the District of Columbia, the State of Maryland, and the Commonwealth of Virginia, In addition, the Metro Transit Police Department offers a rich benefit package to include health, dental, group life insurance, paid holidays, annual and sick leave, a 457 Deferred Compensation Plan and a 401a Plan, tuition reimbursement, flexible spending accounts, and free transportation.

The successful candidate for the Sr. Manager Security & Infrastructure Protection role will possess experience in providing security to all WMATA facilities, will be responsible for reviewing architectural drawings, and will provide direction to both WMATA and contract guard security officers and badging office; while providing security related information/guidance and technologies to various departments in WMATA. The salary range for this position is $104,660.00 - $156,990.00.

This position is in person/onsite Monday-Friday.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Security Management or Vocational/Technical training program in Specialized Security Management.
    • Or in lieu of degree or training program a High School Diploma or General Education Development (GED) Certificate and four (4) years of experience in Law Enforcement, overseeing security projects.

Experience
  • Five (5) years of experience in Law Enforcement and overseeing security projects.

Certification/Licensure
  • A valid Driver's License

  • In accordance with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority's Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP) this job has been identified as critical to mission essential functions. Incumbents in this role may be required to report to or continue to work in the event of authorized office closings or service suspensions due to severe weather, natural disaster, fire, operational emergencies or related events.

Summary

The Senior Manager, Security & Infrastructure protection is a supervisory and administrative position related to security operations. The Senior Manager is responsible for managing the security function for Metro facilities and infrastructure. The incumbent has latitude for independent judgement and action within established guidelines. The employee assists the Director with the planning, implementation and oversight of infrastructure initiatives, security initiatives related to physical security and reviewing architectural drawings to insure the inclusion of security technologies.

Essential Functions
    • Provides overall supervision of the Special Police Force or the Physical Security Unit to include coordinating schedules, inspecting post, coaching and mentoring subordinates and review and revises general and post order and Standard Operating Procedures.
    • Assist in interviewing applicants for employment and ensures all assigned personnel are properly trained.
    • Oversee administrative investigations and provides feedback and recommendations for disciplinary matters.
    • Ensures site assessments are scheduled and that security surveys are completed that identify security vulnerabilities and the survey contains strategies for mitigating risk.
    • Contributes to the planning and implementation of Metro Transit Police Department (MTPD) security related items; to include physical security upgrades.
    • Represents the Office of Security and Infrastructure Protection at meetings in support various construction projects, reviewing and commenting on Procore request, Safety and Security Certification Programs, Safety Committee Meeting, Infrastructure Renewal Programs, and any other meetings related to security at current or future WMATA facilities.
    • Implements new and revised security policies, programs and tools to enable the highest level of security and compliance related to access control.
    • Recommends improvements to security systems and processes to MTPD senior management.
    • OTHER FUNCTIONS
    • Interacts with the WMATA Office of Information Technology to define necessary policies and procedures and to identify needs for the comprehensive integration of the Pro-Watch Program.
    • Compiles threat analysis data and assists with Metro's tri-annual Threat and Vulnerability Assessment reporting.
