Its range of interests includes curriculum, instructional personnel, assessment, accreditation, international initiatives, and oversight of the overall academic mission. The mission of Undergraduate Education is to provide all students with a quality, engaging undergraduate education that gives them the tools to be Engaged Citizens and Well-Rounded Scholars who are Prepared to act. Undergraduate Education manages the Undergraduate and Mason Core Curriculum, Office of Student Scholarship, Creative Activities, and Research (OSCAR), Academic Advising, Undergraduate & Graduate Fellowships, University Studies Programs, and the Mason Impact initiatives including Community Engagement & Civic Engagement (CECiL).About the Position:The mission of the Office of Fellowships is to guide Mason students in applying to nationally competitive awards that support their academic, professional, and personal development. We provide this guidance by:Offering tailored, individualized advising to students through the application process;Providing workshops and trainings on individual awards and broader application skills; andCollaborating with academic and administrative units to spread awareness of opportunities and to institutionally endorse/support applications as required.The mission of the Office of Fellowships is to guide Mason students in applying to nationally competitive awards that support their academic, professional, and personal development. We provide this guidance by:Offering tailored, individualized advising to students through the application process;Providing workshops and trainings on individual awards and broader application skills; andCollaborating with academic and administrative units to spread awareness of opportunities and to institutionally endorse/support applications as required.Reporting to the Office of Fellowships Director, the Graduate Fellowships Program Specialist is responsible for recruiting current and alumni Mason graduate students to apply for nationally competitive awards and providing the applicants comprehensive support through the application process. The Program Specialist will recruit applicants with the principle of inclusive excellence in mind, targeting underrepresented populations in higher education and provide holistic advising that emphasizes student development over award prestige. The Program Specialist contributes to Mason's strategic goals of developing well-rounded and impactful scholars through external study, research, and professional opportunities. Specific duties include:Responsibilities:Advising individual student applicants;Recruiting students to apply to award programs in institutional portfolio;Facilitating institutional endorsement/nomination processes. Supporting director with management of honor societies;Creating/maintaining relationships with department partners across 3 campuses; andManaging applicant records and press releases.Required Qualifications:Masters Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience required;Demonstrated (typically 2-3 years) professional experience working in a university setting with graduate students of all disciplines, including STEM;Demonstrates knowledge in one or more of the following areas: fellowship advising, special awards/grants management, graduate research, academic advising, career services; andExperience serving and supporting diverse student populations.Preferred Qualifications:Demonstrates experience with communication and administrative skills;Demonstrates experience with program development;Demonstrates experience with institutional endorsement/nomination processes, management of honor societies, or managing applicant records;Demonstrates experience with communication, program development, and administrative skills;Demonstrates knowledge of nationally competitive awards and their application processes; andDemonstrates ability to create partnerships among stakeholders in higher education.
