Academic CoordinatorThe George Mason University Intercollegiate Athletics Department, is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Academic Coordinator. George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff, and strongly encourages candidates to apply who will enrich Mason's academic and culturally inclusive environment.About the Position: The Academic Coordinator will provide direct academic support for student-athletes, including but not restricted to, academic skill development, learning strategy assistance, monitoring of academic performance and progress, oversight of tutoring, and assistance with registration and orientation. This position requires an experienced professional who can provide academic support services to a diverse population of student-athletes in high-visibility sports. The Academic Coordinator will work in conjunction with the education specialist to support underprepared students. Responsibilities:Monitors student-athlete progress in all courses and tracks degree-completion status;Provides regular, timely, and detailed updates of student-athlete academic status to coaches and administrators;Works closely with the compliance office in projecting and monitoring NCAA academic eligibility for all assigned student-athletes;Meets with recruits for assigned sports, as requested;Provides administrative support for assigned teams including, but not limited to, course registration, book orders, tutor requests, and study hall monitoring;Works with department education specialists and academic coordinators to identify at-risk and underprepared student-athletes through multiple incoming assessments;Recommends appropriate support services including tutoring or referral to other university resources; andAssists with time management and academic skill building, partnering with other staff members and tutors, to provide a holistic approach to academic support and engagement.Other Relevant Expectations:Understands best practices to promote academic integrity;Abides by all FERPA rules, NCAA and A10 rules, and George Mason University policies and procedures; andA flexible schedule, including working evenings and weekends.Required Qualifications:Advanced degree or equivalent combination of education and experience;Previous experience with academic support services for adolescents and young adult learners;Working knowledge of NCAA rules;Effective skill in the use of computers; andOutstanding oral and written communication skills.Preferred Qualifications:Experience working with student leaders; andFamiliarity with university purchasing procedures.
