Office of the DeanHuman Resources CoordinatorThe George Mason University Office of the Dean, within the College of Engineering and Computing, seeks proactive, organized, and self-reliant applicants for multiple Human Resources Coordinator positions. George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff, and strongly encourages candidates to apply who will enrich Mason's academic and culturally inclusive environment.About the Department:The Chief Business Officer Team within the CEC Office of the Dean, facilitates the planning and implementation of the unit's financial and operational vision as it relates to the full range of business functions and activities for the college to include finance, research administration, human resources, operations and information technology. The CBO is accountable for and provides overall leadership, supervision, management, and coordination of these functions, as well as provide oversight for the development of implementation of policies and procedures to achieve desired outcomes. The CBO team maintains relationships with central administration and other University departments, as well as other units' CBO teams, to facilitate these outcomes.The College of Engineering and Computing has experienced rapid growth over the past five years with students increasing from 7,800 to over 10,000 and full time faculty and staff growing from 250 to 400. The CEC CBO team is expanding to help support this growth. These positions present an fantastic opportunity to provided human resources management in a growth environment. More information is available at https://hr.gmu.edu/benefits/.About the Position:The Human Resources Coordinator executes aspects of the human resources function for the College of Engineering and Computing, including, but not limited to: Faculty and Classified Staff hiring; processing of personnel actions and contract renewals; employee relations issues; onboarding and separations; and providing guidance and support to departments on various HR tasks and policies. As a key member of the CBO Team, the incumbent will work collaboratively with the other CEC departments, as well as the staff of central HR and Provost Office teams.Responsibilities:Faculty and Staff Recruitment and OnboardingProvide oversight and support of all the HR functions associated with recruitment and onboarding of faculty and staff within the College to include: Meet with hiring supervisors to discuss needs of the position to help determine correct employee classification and correct recruitment process; Draft, review, edit, and submit position descriptions for administrative professional faculty, research staff, and classified staff positions;Work with the Classification and Compensation team on any issues or concerns during their review and classification of the position;Draft, review, edit, and submit job advertisements;Lead recruitment kickoff meetings with search committees to provide overview of CEC policies and procedures for recruitments;Track recruitments as they go through the various steps and provide updates to the HR Director, Chief Business Officer, and Dean;Process hiring proposals and support other onboarding requirements; and Process close out of recruitments are the conclusion of the search with required documentation.Faculty and Staff Personnel ActionsProcessing Faculty and Staff Personnel Actions. Support the College in the completion of personnel actions to include: Process necessary transaction forms for various personnel actions including but not limited to leave of absences, change of title, study leave, additional assignments, salary increases and supervisor changes;Maintain tracking of contract end dates for all faculty and ensure requests for renewal are sent to supervisors in a timely manner; Provide support for the CEC Promotion and Tenure (P&T) process to faculty, department chairs, P&T committees and the Dean's office as necessary; Complete contract renewals for the instructional and research faculty, and research staff after receipt of necessary approvals; Manage faculty and staff off-boarding process; andServe as the subject matter expert for HR policies and procedures related to all personnel actions and provide guidance to CEC faculty, staff and leadership when requested.Hiring and HR Support of Graduate Assistants, Adjuncts and Wage PositionsSupport hiring and other HR actions for Graduate Assistants, Adjuncts, Student Wage, and Nonstudent Wage Positions. Provide guidance to and oversight of departmental hiring of graduate assistants, adjuncts and wage employee to include: Providing departmental admins with eligibility requirements for graduate teaching and research assistants and ensuring that departments are validating they are met prior to hire; Provide training and guidance on how to hire non-benefitted positions including creation of the contract, onboarding and entering the assignment into the system; Manage the upload process used to hire adjuncts and graduate assistants each semester to include submission of template to departmental admins, providing deadline for departmental submission, and review and validate prior to submission to central HR for processing;Manage the Student Health Insurance Subsidy Process for the college to include providing eligibility requirements, collection and review of spreadsheet from departments, and submission of spreadsheet for processing; Processing hiring of graduate assistants funded by the College from startup packages for faculty; andDevelop College specific processes and procedures as necessary.Support VISA ProcessesPartner with Office of International Programs and Services (OIPS) to support Faculty VISA requirements:Initiate communication between new faculty and OIPS for discussion of any sponsorship requirements; Complete H-1B initiation paperwork for new faculty once OIPS confirms the need for sponsorship to be eligible for appointment; Complete check request for visa processing fees; and Assist with completion of paperwork for approved Green card applications.Required Qualifications:Bachelor's degree in Human Resources or Management or combination of equivalent education and experience;Experience in working in a diverse office setting;Demonstrated knowledge of general HR principles;Solid organization, communication, and customer-service skills;Skills for writing, editing, and proof-reading various documentation;Proficient at using Word, Excel, and PowerPoint;Familiarity with relational databases or systems (e.g. Ellucian Banner, PeopleSoft, or similar) and knowledge of database principles;Ability to work both independently, as well as within a team on a wide variety of tasks; andSelf-motivated and collaborative mindset.Preferred Qualifications:Training of others on policies and procedures;Advanced knowledge of George Mason University administrative policies and procedures for Human Resources and Payroll;Familiarity with the H-1B visa sponsorship process;Experience working in a large public institution of higher education;Experience documenting and developing HR procedures;Significant (typically 3-5 years) experience in a human resources field; andExperience with data analysis tools such as MicroStrategy.*Please note that this is not a 100% remote/virtual position, but it is telework friendly.
