Job Announcement

Works as part of the Building Design Branch within the Building Design and Construction Division (BDCD), in Capital Facilities. Provides overall project management for a wide variety of county building projects, including fire stations, libraries, police stations, community centers, administrative offices, and vehicle maintenance facilities.

Responsibilities includes:
  • Manages assigned building projects from concept through project close-out.
  • Manages and negotiates professional architectural and engineering design contracts, reviews design plans and specifications.
  • Assures projects are executed within established budgets and schedules.
  • Assists with land acquisition of properties for public use.
  • Coordinates using agency requirements into the design of county building projects.

This position may telework at least 2 to 3 days per week after an introductory period. Telework may be subject to change in accordance with latest Fairfax County policy. The successful applicant must be highly motivated and possess the skills necessary to work in a fast-paced collaborative team environment. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following:

Graduation from a four-year college or university accredited by the Accreditation Board of Engineering and Technologies with a bachelor's degree in the appropriate engineering or architectural field; plus four years of progressively responsible professional experience in the appropriate engineering field.

CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
Valid driver's license.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check and a driver's license check to the satisfaction of the employer.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
  1. Three or more years of project management experience in the design and construction of building projects from concept through project close out.
  2. Three or more years of experience in the contract administration of complex building and major capital improvement projects.
  3. Three or more years of experience in the negotiation on the architectural or engineering design contracts, consultant management, and experience with financial and budgetary planning.
  4. At least two years of experience of local, federal, and state building and site development codes.
  5. Experience providing presentations to various audiences such as: community, executive, and authorized authority.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to produce organized and legible handwritten, typed/computer generated documents including the use of graphics. Must be able to physically negotiate rough terrain and typical construction sites to perform field inspections at project construction sites or potential sites for future facilities. Ability to hear and properly respond to typical construction alarms and verbal warnings on active construction sites. Ability to safely climb construction ladders up to 25 feet in height and able to go up and down stairs for multi-story buildings. Ability to lift 40 pounds with assistance. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
