Minimum Qualifications:

Graduation from an accredited vocational training institute and possession of an instructor's certification. A minimum of five (5) years of experience in the development of training programs and courses related to elevator/escalator maintenance required.

Or, post-high school education and more than five (5) years of experience in the development of training programs and courses related to elevator/escalator maintenance. Must possess an elevator/escalator mechanic instructor's certification.

License:

Possession of, or the ability to rapidly obtain a District of Columbia, Virginia, or Maryland Motor Vehicle Operator's permit issued from jurisdiction of residence.

Satisfactorily complete the medical examination for this position, if required. The incumbent must be able to perform the essential functions of this position either with or without reasonable accommodations.

Mission Essential Designation:

In accordance with the Washington Metropolitan Area Transit Authority's Continuity of Operations Plan (COOP) this job has been identified as critical to mission essential functions. Incumbents in this role may be required to report to or continue to work in the event of authorized office closings or service suspensions due to severe weather, natural disaster, fire, operational emergencies or related events.

Job Summary/Duties:

This is technical, vocational training work of a difficult nature involving the research, analysis, development, and implementation of training courses for Plant (PLNT) Elevator/ Escalator Maintenance (ELES). Employee is responsible for instruction in operation, practical application, and associated equipment training, both in the classroom and in the field, and evaluation of the student's progress throughout the course of study. Employee is also responsible for developing and administering promotion examinations. Employee is supervised by the Manager, Operations Training through periodic conferences, review of completed assignments and day-to-day interaction.

Develops and conducts a comprehensive instructional programs to meet the full range of PLNT Elevator/Escalator training objectives.

Conducts theoretical and practical hands-on training, both in the classroom and in the field for represented and supervisory level employees.

Instructs and demonstrates utilizing applicable technical data, tools, precision measuring/specialized equipment, and correct inspection/ maintenance procedures.

Evaluates student employee performance and confirms that all outlined tasks can successfully be performed by means of written and/or practical testing.

Develops and administers employee promotion examinations, conducts examination review and examines, and provides training/education counseling to ELES employees.

Maintains current knowledge of the modifications and changes of ELES systems and equipment, and integrates these into lesson plans and vocational training curriculum in a timely manner.

Uses up-to-date training techniques (e.g., lecture, demonstration, student participation, question and answer, student evaluation, etc.).

Maintains state-of-the-art knowledge of elevator and escalator technologies.

Assists in the preparation of specifications for contractor provided training and reviews contract proposals for accuracy and completeness. Assists in the approval of preliminary course material for newly procured system/equipment and development of required course outlines and lesson plans.

Prepares and maintains current training aids, video tapes, view-graphs, equipment simulators, and mock-ups. Confirms the availability of classroom space, mock-up, and visual aid equipment at time and place of specified training.

Supervises employee trainees while they are under control of the Training Branch. This includes ensuring compliance with WMATA directives, standard operating procedures, safety and operating rules, time accountability, and complaint resolution. May recommend trainees for commendations or disciplinary action as deemed appropriate.

Researches and prepares technical and administrative reports and briefings in support of ELES training programs.

Identifies and recommends technical publications and reference materials relating to ELES training for inclusion in the technical library.

Performs related duties as required.
