Wish of a Lifetime from AARP (WOL) grants wishes to people 65-plus connecting them to their passions in recognition of their special accomplishments, contributions, and sacrifices. WOL helps people achieve long-held goals while also combatting the negative effects of isolation and strengthening social ties and intergenerational connections.

Are you a creative, passionate, and results-driven student interested in social media and changing how we age in America? Join our WOL Marketing & Communications team! Our team drives WOL's mission through storytelling campaigns that inspire people of all ages to cast away negative perceptions of aging. AARP is committed to your growth and cultivating your continued learning and development. You will be a part of the team that develops strategy; plans and creates content; identify opportunities and trends; seeks and shares best practices; and tests and learns, all while engaging our network of supporters to make aging something that is celebrated. In addition, you'll gain hands-on experience managing social media accounts, creating content, working with multiple groups and stakeholders, and using data to reach our goals and expand our program. This paid internship has an anticipated start date of May/June 2023 and will go through the end of August 2023.

Responsibilities

This position will focus on social media support. Duties will include:
  • Draft and edit social content
  • Assist with editorial planning, content management and scheduling, and channel management
  • Assist with events
  • Assist with reporting and data analysis

Qualifications

  • Must be enrolled in a degree program at an accredited college/university rising undergraduate juniors or seniors, graduate students, or post-doctoral students and remain academically enrolled throughout the internship or must have previously graduated from college and enrolled in a continuing education program
  • AARP also considers non-traditional interns looking to re-enter the workforce or change careers; this may include those who have previously graduated from college and enrolled in a continuing education program
  • Strong writing skills, emphasis on social media writing preferred
  • Demonstrated interest in social media and experience with analytics and reporting
  • Must be a self-starter and adaptable, with the ability to work under tight deadlines
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, anticipate project needs, and discern work priorities
  • Ability to work well with diverse populations, including gender, race, and sexual orientation
  • Technical proficiency in Microsoft Office programs
  • Familiarity with creating and editing videos and knowledge of multiple social media platforms is a plus

Flexible Work Arrangement (FWA)

AARP observes Mondays and Fridays as telecommuting workdays, except for essential functions. Remote work and telecommuting can only be done within the United States and its territories.

Compensation and Benefits

The hourly range is $18 for undergraduates, $21 for graduate students, and $28 for Ph.D. candidates. Internships are non-exempt positions and are not eligible for employee benefits.
