As a Director of Data Architecture, you collaborate and build productive relationships with People Tech Product leads and technology teams, driving People Tech data architectures to implement groundbreaking data technologies to enable modern, secure and mature data platforms. Develops well defined data strategy that unleash the power of our data with mature and secure capabilities, providing insights and actionability to leaders and teams across the enterprise.

You will lead a team of Data architects and act as a thought leader working across People Tech to develop and implement cutting edge data architecture and design to ensure People Tech's continued innovation and success. Directors of Data Architecture have a high level of exposure across lines of business and the opportunity to work with Executives to create and implement innovative design to identify and mitigate potential technology and architecture risks to the Company. Specifically, the People Tech Architecture function seeks to establish an effective architecture practice to provide the shared vision of the future that links business and technical strategy through a customer-centric, domain-oriented view. Such shared visions enable driving towards the same goals, building or buying the right things, and building them the right way, while flexibly adapting to changes in business needs and technology capabilities, thereby resulting in operational efficiency and improved risk while embracing freedom to innovate.

Successful candidates are deep technical experts and thought leaders that help accelerate adoption of the very best engineering practices, while maintaining knowledge on industry innovations, trends and practices. Visionaries, collaborating on Capital One's toughest issues, to deliver on business needs that directly impact the lives of our customers and associates. Role models and mentors, helping to coach and strengthen the technical expertise and know-how of our engineering and product community. Evangelists, both internally and externally, helping to elevate the Architecture community and establish themselves as a go-to resource on given technologies and technology-enabled capabilities.Demonstrate a proven track record of project and program delivery; change resiliency to maintain momentum in a dynamic, fast-paced and complex environment and among competing priorities; and strong partnership and communication skills to engage and influence critical stakeholders. This role is ideal for someone with strong leadership skills, who is capable of driving transformational change and delivering game-changing value. The preferred candidate will have experience working in Data architecture organizations within a major financial institution or technology company, with a solid understanding of data architecture frameworks, data architecture methodology, data regulatory requirement management and applicability, and control operating and design effectiveness testing.

Responsibilities:

  • Build awareness, increase knowledge and drive adoption of modern technologies, sharing consumer and engineering benefits to gain buy-in
  • Promote a culture of engineering excellence, using opportunities to reuse and innersource solutions where possible
  • Effectively communicate with and influence key stakeholders across the enterprise, at all levels of the organization
  • Operate as a trusted advisor for a specific technology, platform or capability domain, helping to shape use cases and implementation in an unified manner
  • Lead the way in creating next-generation talent for Tech, mentoring internal talent and actively recruiting external talent to bolster Capital One's Tech talent
  • Design and maintain an architecture management framework enabling line of sight and governance to both processes and platforms
  • Design and maintain a highly automated control program with preventive controls, and real time monitoring and alerting
  • Perform critical assessments on risk categories to mitigate risk to the company
  • Perform extensive gap assessments and create recommendations to ensure smart business decisions
  • Use analytical skills to conduct Risk Process Improvement, Process Design & Process Excellence
  • Large scale Process Management/Governance
  • Consult with Executives to determine interaction model with Lines of Business to create positive relationships
  • Work with dynamic teams on Departmental Process Management & Execution


Basic Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree
  • At least 7 years of Data Architecture
  • At least 5 years experience in People Management


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Master's Degree
  • 5+ years of experience in data management and data governance
  • 3+ years of experience in data solution design
  • 2+ years of experience building real-time data products
  • 5+ years of experience developing in Python, Java, or Scala
  • 8+ years experience architecting and delivering software systems or platforms
  • 8+ years of data governance, data access, data lineage, data monitoring, and security controls experience
  • 3+ years of experience with AWS
  • 3+ years of experience working with Big Data
  • 5+ years of experience as a Program Manager within the financial services industry
  • 5+ years experience in Operations or Risk Management

The minimum and maximum full-time annual salaries for this role are listed below, by location. Please note that this salary information is solely for candidates hired to perform work within one of these locations, and refers to the amount Capital One is willing to pay at the time of this posting. Salaries for part-time roles will be prorated based upon the agreed upon number of hours to be regularly worked.

Location is New York City: $269,400 - $307,500 for Director, Data Engineering

Candidates hired to work in other locations will be subject to the pay range associated with that location, and the actual annualized salary amount offered to any candidate at the time of hire will be reflected solely in the candidate's offer letter.

This role is also eligible to earn performance based incentive compensation, which may include cash bonus(es) and/or long term incentives (LTI). Incentives could be discretionary or non discretionary depending on the plan.
