Job Description
The Washington Post is looking for a campaign trail reporter to travel the country and help chronicle the 2024 presidential election.
We are looking for an agile journalist with a nose for news, who can report and write with speed and precision. The ideal candidate will have experience filing quick dispatches on deadline as well as longer feature stories.
A willingness to travel regularly is required. This reporter will be expected to attend a wide range of campaign events, from candidate rallies and town halls to debates and forums to state fairs and holiday parades. We are looking for a high-metabolism journalist who can bring the trail to life for readers and deliver stories no one else spots.
A background in national political reporting is not mandatory, but candidates should be knowledgeable about presidential politics and have the skills and experience to break news on a highly competitive beat. We want a journalist who can cut through campaign spin and deliver revelatory reporting that helps the public better understand the men and women seeking the country's highest office.
The position will involve frequent collaboration, so we are seeking someone who is ready to work closely with colleagues from the politics team and beyond. We would also like this reporter to be comfortable telling stories in varied forms, including written explainers, vertical videos and audio dispatches.
This position is based in our Washington newsroom. There is a strong internal candidate for this job, but we would like to hear from qualified candidates who would be excited to help us cover the upcoming presidential campaign.
