That's what #LifeAtCummins is all about.We are looking for a dynamic, talented Government Relations Director to join our team specializing in strategic government relations for our Corporate Business Segment headquartered in Washington, DC The role is designated hybrid and requires less than 20% overall travel. In this role, the Government Relations Director will make an impact in the following ways: While reporting to the Senior Government Relations Director, the Government Relations Director will be responsible for setting the conditions of a highly accountable, people centric culture.Leads government relations activities for trade and tax policy in the US; represents the organization's interests at the US federal level, including Executive and Congressional branches; establishes rapport with government officials, industry associations and trade organizations to ensure representation of Cummins' interests; work with industry and trade groups to develop and advocate for common industry positionsDrives alignment process to ensure that government relations is tightly connected to business goals and objectives; identifies key government issues for business; advises leadership on public policy issues and regulatory matters; manages risk to the enterprise from government actionsDevelops and leads team efforts to implement advocacy plans for international trade and tax issues as identified; participates on government relations teams involved in grassroots, political action committee activities and advocacy across the organizationProactively partners with the business leadership to align government relations strategies, policies, and services within the government relations function and with the business's current and future goals; develops short-term government relations initiatives and tactics, aligned closely to business objectives; analyzes legislative and regulatory proposals for the businessDevelops and leads business coalitions to support Cummins advocacy strategies for trade and tax policy and activities; drafts internal and external communications documents relating to Cummins government advocacy activities and strategiesCompiles and ensures compliance with all laws, regulations, and ethical concerns within area of jurisdiction and broadly across the organizationSpeaks at external and internal meetings regarding public policy issues and activities; serves as an external spokesperson with public policy stakeholders for the company, particularly for the country or business of assignmentAdvises on sponsorship opportunities in the country of assignment; provides input into marketing initiatives in the country of assignment; contributes to the country's corporate responsibility strategyTo be successful in this role you will need the following:Experience in federal government or government relationsSignificant advocacy experience in either tax or trade policyBusiness insight: Applying knowledge of business and the marketplace to advance the organization's goalsGlobal perspective: Taking a broad view when approaching issues, using a global lensStrategic mindset: Seeing ahead to future possibilities and translating them into breakthrough strategiesInstills trust: Gaining the confidence and trust of others through honesty, integrity, and authenticityRegulatory Compliance: Champions compliance with environmental regulatory requirements imposed on industry by local, state, provincial, national, and international organizations including air emissions, wastewater discharges, natural resource consumption, waste generation, spill prevention and reporting, and emergency responseBusiness Writing: Writes business messages using appropriate grammar and style guidelines for the given format or publication and target audience; simplifies complex information into messages relevant to the target audiencePersuades: Using compelling arguments to gain the support and commitment of othersManages complexity: Making sense of complex, high quantity, and sometimes contradictory information to effectively solve problemsBuilds networks: Effectively building formal and informal relationship networks inside and outside the organizationEnsures accountability: Holding self and others accountable to meet commitmentsPolitical Acumen: Compares and contrasts the interests of key stakeholders (individuals, political parties, media, and outside groups such as NGOs, organized labor, PACs, etc.) to form effective and persuasive advocacy strategies and communicationsLobbying Strategy and Management: Formulates comprehensive advocacy plans that identify stakeholders, timelines for action, local and federal level engagement and communication tools to drive positive results; assess effectiveness of strategy by monitoring progress/awareness and adapt to ensure preferred policy outcomeGovernment Advocacy: Demonstrates deep understanding of the mechanics of how the legislative, executive and judicial branches enact law or policy changes at the national, state/provincial and local government level in the country of assignment; identifies engagement opportunities and legal obligations relating to lobbying and political activities at the national, state/provincial and local levels Education/ Licenses, CertificationsCollege, university, or equivalent degree, requiredMBA, MPP, MPA, or JD highly preferred Compensation and BenefitsBase salary rate commensurate with experience.
