Duties

As a OPERATIONS PLANNING SPECIALIST at the GS-0301-13 some of your typical work assignments may include:
  • Serve as an expert advisor and program/project lead for analysis and planning activities within the Future Operations Division.
  • Ensure internal JECC planning and procedures remain consistent with planning systems such as the Joint Planning Process (JPP) and the Joint Strategic Planning System (JSPS).
  • Serve as an advisor to senior management at JECC headquarters and its subordinate elements on activities and plans related to the future operations.
  • Provide authoritative advice to senior management; remain apprised of and provide guidance through evaluation of new or revised strategy and policy documents from higher level organizations.
  • Prepare and present various briefings including strategic reports, decision briefs, responses to queries, justifications, and background papers on the technical aspects in areas of expertise and assignment.

  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a Special Sensitive (Top Secret/Sensitive Compartmented Information (SCI)) security clearance
  • The position is designated by the Air Force as a Test Designated Position (TOP) under the AF Civilian Drug Testing Program.
  • This is a KEY position. In the event of a crisis situation, the incumbent, or a designated alternate, must continue to perform the duties until relieved by proper authority
  • This is a Mission Essential (ME) position performing a Mission Critical Function (MCF) which must continue uninterrupted after the occurrence of an emergency and continued through full resumption of all functions
  • Travel and relocation expenses, if approved, will be paid IAW JTR and AFMAN 36-606


Qualifications

You may qualify at the GS-13 level, if you fulfill the following qualifications:

One year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-12 grade level in the Federal service:
  • Providing core capability for operational planning for events and activities, with horizons greater than one week.
  • Supporting planning for deployments, and plans and assessing engagement with combatant commands and other mission partners.
  • Recommending what programs or major projects should be initiated, dropped, increased, or curtailed.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Education

Substitution of education may not be used in lieu of specialized experience for this grade level.
