Duties

1. Sets up snack bar. This includes taking merchandise out of storage (sodas, chips, buns, hot dogs, etc.), preparing hot food items (hotdogs, popcorn etc.), packaging hot food items for individual sale, setting out condiments, napkins, and eating utensils, and replenishing serving items, food, and snacks. Conducts daily and monthly inventory. May inventory food from delivery trucks.

2. Operates, breaks down and cleans all electrical equipment for food preparation. Maintains area in clean and orderly condition. Sweeps and mops the floors, cleans windows, sanitizes trash cans and washes wall, tables, chairs and counters. Separates food waste and trash from dishes, glasses and silverware in dishwashing area. Washes dishes, stores clean dishes, glasses and silverware. Collects and transfer trash from work area to disposal area. Returns unused nonperishable food items to storage.

3. Performs check-out/cashier duties such as ringing up food, beverages, and merchandise by individual item. Operates cash register, rings up the sale, receives money and make change. Ensure all monies are accounted for by balancing register tape. At the end of each shift clears the cash register, totals sales and turns over cash and supporting documents as instructed.

4. May be required to answer phones and file as needed by organization.

5. May inventory food from delivery and on an end of month basis and if required on a daily basis.

6. Physical Effort: A certain degree of manual skill is required in moving carts in operating kitchen equipment. Frequently lifts or moves objects weighing up to 20 pounds unassisted occasionally lifts or move objects weighing more than 20 pounds unassisted. Continuous standing, walking, frequent stooping, reaching, pushing, pulling and bending.

7. Working Conditions: Uncomfortably high temperatures and humidity are created by steam and heat from cooking and dishwashing. Area is usually noisy and there is a danger of slipping on wet floors where food or beverages have been dropped. Exposed to hot liquids, sharp cutting blades, hot working surfaces and extreme temperature changes when entering walk-in refrigeration or freezer units.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application.

Qualifying Experience:
Ability to read and understand written and oral instructions and do simple tasks that are easily learned. Must be skilled in doing tasks with several steps and must use judgment in sequencing tasks. Must be able to obtain Food Handler's Certificate and/or complete Food Handler's Training. Prefer that individual have clerical experience which includes demonstrated ability to perform common arithmetic problems and make change when receiving payments. Prefer that individual has experience in the receipt, disbursement, deposit or other processing of cash items. Must have ability to communicate both orally and in writing. Must be physically able to life or move objects weighing up to 40 pounds. Must be able to continuously stand, walk, stoop, reach, push, pull and bend for long periods of time. Must satisfactorily complete installation, state and national criminal background checks. Must satisfactorily complete mandatory training as specified below. Must successfully complete a pre-employment physical.

Education

Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. This position does allow for education substitution.

FOREIGN EDUCATION: Education completed in foreign colleges or universities may be used to meet the requirements. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program. It is your responsibility to provide such evidence when applying.
