Career AdvisorThe George Mason University, School of Business, invites applications for the position of Career Advisor. This position provides direct student services through individual appointments and office hours. The Career Advisor will engage undergraduate and graduate students in planning for full time jobs and internships in business, assisting with their career needs which will include resumes, interview skills, and preparing for the job search. Washington, D.C. is ranked the 30th most racially and ethnically diverse city nationally amongst cities with a population of at least 300,000 people according to the U.S. News & World Report 2018 Diversity Ranking.Responsibilities:The Career Advisor has responsibilities in the following areas:Student Interaction:Provide internship and career advising in one-on-one setting;Focus on providing direct student service through individual appointments and office hours; andIndividual advising involves extensive coaching and advising for students at all stages of career development including making sound decisions about career choices, learning how to identify and secure externships and internships, demonstrating the value and use of career resources, and teaching students about resume writing, industry and employer research, interviewing skills, networking, and internship/job search strategies.Industry Development:Career Advisor will work with the career services team to build specific industry knowledge that will directly influence and impact the ability to assist students in their job/internship search.Workshop and Orientation Sessions:Present career related workshops and orientations throughout the year for the purpose of educating and engaging undergraduate and graduate students in the School of Business; andWork directly with the School of Business Career Services team to create and implement new initiatives, programs, and services to better enhance the overall job and internship search experience of School of Business undergraduate and graduate students.Special Projects:Create and manage projects as assigned by the Director or Assistant Dean of Career Services to help achieve the goals of the career services career development programs, services, and events; andWork closely with the Director, Career Services and Assistant Dean, Career Services on special projects or initiatives.Required Qualifications:Bachelor's degree or equivalent combination of experience and education;Ability to implement academic programs and services;Excellent organizational, communication, and presentation skills;Relationship skills: teamwork, collaboration, networking, and development;Technology skills: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Salesforce, Banner; use of the internet; andAbility to manage multiple tasks and work independently.Preferred Qualifications:Master's degree in business, Counseling, or Higher Education;BA in Higher Education, Counseling, or Business discipline preferred;Knowledge of business careers and the local/regional business community;Experience in career services in higher education or other advising related experience in higher education;Demonstrated higher education experience (or related field); andExperience working with the implementation of internship programs and career services for business students.
