Job Announcement

Fairfax County’s Stormwater Management is recruiting a highly motivated and collaborative Safety Analyst I to assist in the implementation of the safety program. Under direct supervision of the Safety Analyst II, this dynamic position is essential to enhancing safety in our organization and has responsibilities both in the field and office environments.

Duties of this position include:
  • Inspecting and monitoring worksites for compliance of occupational safety and health standards, codes, laws, internal policies, and best practices;
  • Providing guidance and training to enhance safety and prevent injuries, safety incidents and vehicle collisions;
  • Developing and managing occupational safety and health programs and safety training programs for topics such as confined space entry, personal protective equipment, driver safety, powered industrial trucks, tools, equipment, and general jobsite hazards;
  • Documenting and maintaining records related to incidents, inspections, and hazard trends;
  • Investigating injuries and other incidents to identify root cause;
  • Collaborating with others to preplan safe operations.
This position requires basic knowledge and experience applying OSHA/VOSH standards and other related safety skills.

Employment Standards

Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following:

Bachelor's degree from an accredited four-year college or university with a degree in safety sciences, industrial hygiene, safety management, loss prevention or closely related field.

Valid driver's license.

The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check and driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.

  • Knowledge of OSHA/VOSH general industry (29 CFR 1910), construction (29 CFR 1926) and recordkeeping (1904) standards.
  • Experience identifying and evaluating safety hazards.
  • Communication and interpersonal skills including an ability to develop relationships with field staff through the senior staff.
  • Ability to document, present, and share information in writing.
  • Experience working around field construction equipment (backhoes, skid steers, dump trucks, etc.).
  • Experience presenting and conducting training to groups of all sizes.
  • Basic to intermediate knowledge of Microsoft Office suite programs.

Ability to stand, stoop, bend, stretch, walk, climb, sit, kneel, crouch, reach, crawl, lift and handle materials with manual dexterity. Ability to lift/slide up to 90 pounds with assistance. Ability to input, access, and retrieve information from a computer. Ability to work in hot and cold temperatures. Ability to use hand tools. Ability to walk, negotiate or traverse property sites that may be undergoing construction or having terrain that is not level. Ability to read, write, and interpret written documents in English.
