Job Announcement

Under the Ordinance Administration Section of the Zoning Administration Division performs a variety of zoning administration functions to include:
  • Process intake and acceptance of specific zoning applications in the PLUS system and provide technical support for customers inputting requests into the PLUS system.
  • Answer and/or route telephone, email or in-person inquiries, process incoming and outgoing correspondence for the Ordinance Administration Section.
  • Manage office templates and forms and provide other office support for the Section.
  • Schedule Planner-of-the-Day (“POD”) coverage.
  • Provide Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) response support.
  • May assist in processing food truck permits and home day care forms and provide web page support under the direction of the Planning Technician II.
  • Complete other administrative tasks as needed, and other duties as assigned.
Note: The salary for this position will not exceed the midpoint of the advertised salary range.

In accordance with current Fairfax County telework and personnel policies, this position is eligible for partial telework. Telework enrollment and continuance is subject to supervisor approval and County policy.

Employment Standards

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to: high school graduation or a GED issued by a state department of education; plus two years of non-professional planning or zoning related work, as defined by the area to which assigned.

NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check to the satisfaction of the employer.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Applicant should possess the ability to interact effectively with the public and maintain good working relationships with fellow employees. Strong skills in business English, grammar, spelling, and punctuation. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.) and operating peripheral office equipment (printers, copiers, scanners, etc.) efficiently and effectively. An ability to work efficiently under pressure and meet competing deadlines, providing administrative support for multiple staff. Applicant should possess strong organizational skills and ability to self-manage completion of tasks. Basic familiarity with planning and zoning terminology a plus. Proficiency in a language other than English is desirable.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Position is primarily sedentary; however, employee may be required to do some walking, standing, bending and carrying of items under 15 pounds in weight. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.

SELECTION PROCEDURE:
Panel interview and may include written exercise.
