Job Announcement
Are you passionate about the mission of local government? Fairfax County's Department of Information Technology (DIT) is currently seeking a Mail Courier within the County’s Document Services Division.
Serves as an integral role within Mail Services division of DIT. This position will provide support to county agencies in fulfilling their needs of receiving comprehensive mail support. The Mail Services department handles more than 25 million pieces of mail a year.
Provides a combination of mail processing and delivery services in a team environment. Provides delivery and pickup services to remote county offices on one of four defined routes. Sorts and organizes interoffice mail. Serves as a backup resource on other defined routes. Makes deliveries of completed bulk mail products to USPS processing centers and retrieves mail from multiple post office locations. Assists in the preparation of bulk mail products via the operation of high-speed inserters and other mail preparation equipment. Customer base includes all county departments plus offices of the elected Board of Supervisors. Must be able and willing to work during unfavorable weather conditions when county offices are open. Performs other duties as assigned.
Note: The assigned functional areas of the position are mail services and/or mail processing.
Employment Standards
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience and training equivalent to high school graduation and one year of experience providing administrative support in the assigned functional area(s).
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
A valid motor vehicle driver's license.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check and driving record check to the satisfaction of the employer.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Two or more years of experience delivering inter-office mail, parcels, etc. for a large organization. Knowledge of USPS regulations related to caller service and PO box pickups, bulk mail processing, and certified mail handling. Ability to operate mail processing machinery such as inserters, postage applicators, etc. Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously, while maintaining attention to detail. Excellent customer service skills.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to lift material and containers weighing up to 70 pounds. Work is generally sedentary, performed in a normal office environment. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
