The Fairfax County Health Department is a progressive public health leader serving 1.2 million residents from diverse ethnic, cultural and economic backgrounds. The Health Department’s Tuberculosis Control Program is seeking one 40hour/week Human Services Assistants (TB Outreach Workers) focusing on providing supervision and documentation of treatment for clients with active TB disease and latent tuberculosis infection (LTBI).
Under the direction of a Public Health Nurse (PHN) II and TB Program Leadership, this position, assures that TB and LTBI clients in their caseload are adequately and completely treated. This includes Daily direct observation of TB therapy for each client via in-person home visit or video monitoring, frequent communication and collaboration with the TB PHN Nurse Case Manage, TB Manger/Assistant Mangers, and TB Physician Consultant, Daily documentation and entry of all client encounters on FCHD's electronic medical record,
approved, assisting with reinforcement of TB education as well as plan of care to clients provided by the TB PHN Case Manager, performing outreach worker team duties as assigned, and providing referrals to other human service agencies as needed per the direction of the TB PHN II Nurse Case Manager.
Note: Health Department positions are designated as emergency responders in the event of a public health crisis. As a public health emergency responder, this position may be reassigned to provide support based on the emergency response service needs. The temporary reassignment may require employees to function in a role outside of the typical job duties. The emergency response may also require employees to work alternative work schedules to include weekend and evenings.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following:

Graduation from high school or G.E.D. issued by state department of education; plus three years of work experience, including two years in some area of human services (related two-year
[associate] degree may be substituted for the required human service experience).
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Preferred candidates will have local public health experience and knowledge of specific Fairfax County Health Department TB policies and procedures. Experience providing human services to diverse clientele in the home setting. Ability to read and write fluently in English and one or more of the following languages: Spanish, Vietnamese, Korean or Amharic. Ability to work well in a multi-disciplinary team. Must have a high level of integrity and discretion in handling confidential information and professionalism in dealing with customers and colleagues. Demonstrates strong problem-solving skills; excellent verbal and written communication abilities, demonstrates interpersonal skills to communicate effectively and clearly with a diverse population. Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite or other software applications.
CERTIFICATES AND LICENSES REQUIRED:
- Valid driver's license
- AED (Required within 60 days)
- Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation - CPR (Required within 60 days)
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check, a child protective services check, a sanctions screening, and driver's license check to the satisfaction of the employer.

Proof of an exemption or vaccination status will be required during the pre-employment onboarding process. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Job is generally sedentary in nature, and job requires walking, standing, sitting, and kneeling, reaching, bending, climbing stairs; uses hands to grasp, handle, or feel. May be required to lift or carry up to 25 lbs. occasionally. Visual acuity is required to read data on a computer monitor; ability to operate keyboard driven equipment and computer. Position frequently communicates and must be able to exchange accurate information with others verbally and in writing. Generally, works in an office environment yet may occasionally be required to perform job duties outside of the typical office setting. Ability to drive a motor vehicle. All duties may be performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
