Under general supervision of the Code Specialist II in the Technical Services Branch of the Building Division, provides technical interpretations and evaluates construction documents in accordance with the Virginia Uniform Statewide Building Code, referenced standards and departmental policies. Reviews and processes shop drawings and related documents for elevator Program. Serves as lead technician in support of the county Elevator and cross connection Program. Communicates development regulations to contractors, builders, engineers, other governmental agencies, and the public. Complies with LDS's safety programs and guidelines. Complies with county, agency, and job specific training requirements, including but not limited to Emergency Management and Safety related courses.
Note: Position may be underfilled as an Engineer Technician II; the Underfill Requirements are stated below in the Employment Standards section.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to high school graduation or a GED issued by a state department of education; plus, four years of engineering technical support work.

UNDERFILL REQUIREMENTS:
This position may be underfilled as an Engineering Technician II (Grade S19, $49,526.46 - $82,543.97 Annually). The Minimum Qualifications for the Engineering Technician II are : Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to high school graduation or a G.E.D. issued by a state department of education; plus, three years of engineering technical support work.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:
Strong customer service skills. Clear and concise oral and written communication skills. Ability to read/interpret construction documents to verify compliance with applicable state and local codes. Familiarity with the Virginia Construction Code and the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME). Proficiency with Accela(PLUS) or similar types of databases.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Ability to stand, bend, squat and twist upper body up to an hour. Visual acuity to read data and construction documents on computer monitors. Ability to operate keyboard driven equipment. Ability to lift up to 50 lbs. All duties performed with or without reasonable accommodations.
