Duties

  • You will assist with the design and development of experimental systems (Propulsion, Heat Transfer/Thermodynamics, Nucleonics) and their laboratory demonstration units as provided by higher level Technician, Supervisor, or Faculty.
  • You will build/rebuild gasoline and diesel internal combustion engines and engine control systems for engineering testing.
  • You will setup, maintain, and operate engine dynamometers.
  • You will instruct midshipmen, faculty, and other authorized personnel in the proper operation of mechanical and electronic equipment found in the engineering laboratories.
  • You will conduct performance and maintenance tests of equipment and components to insure proper operation for lab instruction.
  • You will set up, calibrate, and operate all mechanical/electronic equipment associated with various engineering labs.

Qualifications

Specialized Experience for the GS-09 grade level:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-08 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
1) Training and experience in troubleshooting and repair of automotive internal combustion engines and computerized engine control systems,
2) Applying technical engineering procedures or work methods in the operation or support of propulsion systems and their repair, modification, or overhaul on ships or submarines,
3) Setting up, calibrating and operating mechanical/electronic equipment associated with various engineering labs (Propulsion, Heat Transfer/Thermodynamics, and/or Nucleonics); and
4) Collecting and evaluating data using mechanical and electronic devices.

Specialized Experience for the GS-10 grade level:
Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-09 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following:
1) Training and experience in troubleshooting and repair of automotive internal combustion engines and computerized engine control systems,
2) Applying technical engineering procedures or work methods in the operation or support of propulsion systems and their repair, modification, or overhaul on ships or submarines,
3) Developing new experimental systems, demonstrations, and demonstration units in support of Propulsion, Heat Transfer/Thermodynamics, and/or Nucleonics laboratories;
4) Designing and directing the construction of, or personally fabricating, various test devices (electronic and mechanical) for instructional purposes.
