Duties

The DoDEA Virtual High School is seeking teachers, counselors, and educational technologists for the 2023 Online Summer High School Program and for the 2023 Online Summer School Math 8A Program. This is a six-week commitment from June 13, 2023-July 28, 2023, to include training, preparation, collaboration, and final grade reporting. In addition to teaching their assigned course(s), all educators are required to participate in dedicated virtual school training and collaboration which will be provided before and during the summer school session. Training will be differentiated by experience. Up to twelve hours of required training will be scheduled before classes open to students. Any additional hours for training and collaboration will be scheduled during the summer school session. The total hours for training and collaboration will not exceed 16 hours.

Conditions of Employment

  • Staff members selected for Summer School are authorized and required to use a DoDEA computer supplied by their local brick and mortar school.
  • The Computer Needs Agreement form, signed by the staff member's supervisor, verifies that the teacher will be provided a DoDEA computer for the summer. Upon their selection, this form will be given to applicants for signature.
  • Experience in teaching online or blended courses
  • Experience working with a Learning Management System (e.g. Schoology, Blackboard, etc.)
  • Proficiency in using Microsoft Office 365, Google Applications for Education, and multimedia applications.
  • Experience utilizing asynchronous tools (emails, discussion boards, online collaboration tools, etc.) and synchronous tools (instant messaging, web conferencing, etc.) to support online education.
  • Strong content knowledge in position for which applying.
  • Strong ability to learn and implement new technologies quickly.
  • Experience in working with high school students with an emphasis on supporting personalized learning.
  • Must be available for virtual training, course preparation, collaboration, and teaching for the full summer school session: June 13, 2023 through July 28, 2023.
  • Must have continuous access to reliable, high speed internet in order to perform online instructional duties.
  • Assigned work hours will be dependent on student enrollment and program needs (not to exceed 40 hours per week)
  • Must be willing to non-traditional work hours which may vary depending on student location.

Instructor Duties:
  • Teaches specific courseware via the Schoology Learning Management System (LMS) to students participating in the Online Summer High School Program.
  • Maintains and submits a weekly worklog
  • Monitors, tracks and evaluates student progress. Notifies DVHS administrators and the DVHS PPS department of any student progress issues.
  • Works collaboratively with mentors for student success.
  • Communicates regularly with appropriate staff, students, sponsors, and administrators.
  • Creates a positive learning environment and establishes good rapport with stakeholders, but especially students.
  • Collaborates with other educators in required weekly content area digital learning communities (DLCs) to exchange ideas and utilize best practices for online learning.
  • Personalizes instruction based on student need.
  • Coordinates with Special Education and English Second Language staff to provide accommodations and/or modifications for students.
  • Establishes non-traditional office hours to meet the needs of student and staff members in a variety of time zones.
  • Utilizes synchronous tools to provide same-time support for students.
  • Uses multimedia technology to reteach or enhance courseware based upon student needs.
Special Education Teacher Duties:
  • Serves as a mentor to assist students in completing online summer course work.
  • Communicates and collaborates with teachers to provide accommodations and/or modifications for special needs students (IEP or 504 Plan).
  • Monitors and tracks the progress of students with special needs. Notifies DVHS administrators, the DVHS PPS department, and the student's teacher of any student issues that arise.
  • Creates, maintains and updates communication log for assigned special needs students.
  • Is available to staff, students and sponsors on an as-needed basis via phone, instant message or other synchronous communication tools.
  • Communicates regularly with students, sponsors, staff and DVHS administrators.
  • Maintains and submits a weekly worklog.
  • Collaborates with other educators in required weekly content area digital learning communities (DLCs) to exchange ideas and utilize best practices for online learning.
  • Establishes non-traditional office hours to meet the needs of student and staff members in a variety of time zones.
English Second Language Teacher Duties:
  • Serves as a mentor to assist students in completing online summer course work.
  • Communicates and collaborates with teachers to provide accommodations and/or modifications for English Language Learner (ELL) students.
  • Monitors and tracks the progress of ELL students. Notifies DVHS administrators, the DVHS PPS department, and the student's teacher of any student issues that arise.
  • Creates, maintains and updates communication log for assigned ELL students.
  • Is available to staff, students and sponsors on an as-needed basis via phone, instant message or other synchronous communication tools.
  • Communicates regularly with students, sponsors, staff and DVHS administrators.
  • Maintains and submits a weekly worklog.
  • Collaborates with other educators in required weekly content area digital learning communities (DLCs) to exchange ideas and utilize best practices for online learning.
  • Establishes non-traditional office hours to meet the needs of student and staff members in a variety of time zones.
Secondary Counselor Duties:
  • Serves as a mentor to assist students in completing online summer coursework.
  • Communicates regularly with students, sponsors, staff and DVHS administrators.
  • Collaborates with teachers to provide support for students having difficulties in the online course.
  • Monitors and tracks the progress of assigned students. Notifies DVHS administrators, the DVHS PPS department, and the student's teacher of any student issues that arise.
  • Establishes a plan to engage each online high school student and sponsor with information and support services geared toward positive academic outcomes.
  • Creates, maintains and updates communication log for assigned students.
  • Maintains and submits a weekly worklog.
  • Is available to staff, students and sponsors on an as-needed basis via phone, instant message or other synchronous communication tools.
  • Collaborates with other educators in required weekly content area digital learning communities (DLCs) to exchange ideas and utilize best practices for online learning.
  • Establishes non-traditional office hours to meet the needs of student and staff members in a variety of time zones.
Educational Technologist Duties:
  • Assists teachers by providing a variety of student information obtained from the SIS.
  • Assists teachers in gathering information and data on student engagement in a course.
  • Assists teachers with the LMS Grade Center and end-of-summer grade reporting procedures.
  • Provides technical support to students including, but not limited to, the use of instant messaging, web conferencing, and the LMS.
  • Provides technical support to teachers and staff including, but not limited to, software installations, use of web conferencing, access to the LMS, access to official DoDEA email, and Common Access Card (CAC) trouble.
  • Is available to staff, students and sponsors on an as-needed basis via phone, instant message or other synchronous communication tools.
  • Maintains and submits a weekly worklog.
  • Provides on-demand professional development for educators.
  • Establishes non-traditional office hours to meet the needs of student and staff members in a variety of time zones.


Education

MUST BE DODEA CERTIFIED IN CONTENT AREA(S) IN WHICH YOU ARE APPLYING.

PCS COSTS WILL NOT BE AUTHORIZED FOR SUMMER HIGH SCHOOL PROGRAM.

Direct Deposit:
  • Selectees will be required to participate in Direct Deposit/Electronic Fund Transfer as a condition of employment, reassignment, or promotion, in accordance with DoD Regulation 7000.14-R.
Compensation:
  • DoDEA educators located in the Pacific and Europe will be compensated at their daily rate of pay or portion thereof.
  • DoDEA educators located in the Americas will be compensated at their earned hourly rate of pay.
  • Pay memos will be submitted by the Virtual School Principal to the DVHS Customer Support Representative (CRS) to be processed and submitted to DLA for payment.

  • Applicants must be DoDEA certified in the content area for which they are applying.
