Telecom TechnicianGeorge Mason University, Information Technology Services (ITS) - located on the Fairfax, Va., campus - invites applications for a Telecom Technician position within the Technology Support Services (TSS), TSS Logistics team. George Mason University has a strong institutional commitment to the achievement of excellence and diversity among its faculty and staff, and strongly encourages candidates to apply who will enrich Mason's academic and culturally inclusive environment.Responsibilities:Installation, repair, and troubleshooting of George Mason University telephony and fax hardware and software; (knowledge of Vonage portal software);Provide repair services for George Mason University faculty, staff and students;On-site testing, troubleshooting, equipment replacement, new equipment installation, and coordinating with the PBX administrator; andBack up network engineers and on-site Verizon technician and PBX vendors to resolve repair problems.Required Qualifications:Associate's degree in electronics, computing and/or communications; or an equivalent combination of education and experience;Experience installing analog, fax and VoIP/Sip equipment;Experience working in voice and data closets to provide voice and/or Ethernet connectivity;Demonstrated ability with the use of PC, Microsoft Excel and database software; and ability to interact with telecom software programs (No touch) (Wire shark);Possess a working knowledge of most commonly used software products (Windows OSes, Microsoft Office, Apple, etc.); andExperience interacting with both coworkers and customers, resulting in high-quality customer support.Preferred Qualifications:Certifications and/or training from applicable Telecom hardware and software manufacturers;Certifications and/or training in the use of, and installation and troubleshooting of all telecom equipment;Demonstrated hands-on technical experience in installation and repair of voice and data hardware and software; (working knowledge of Vonage portal software);Extensive experience in network wiring closets, tracking and cutting over analog gateway and 10/10 connections, as well as Verizon pots lines and ISDN; andKnowledge of service request management systems, such as Team Dynamix and experience working with a help desk and help desk procedures.George Mason University is a great place to work where employees are given an opportunity to develop skills and expand horizons.
