Manager, Enterprise Learning Experience Design

The Enterprise Learning Experience Design team is using human-centered learning experience design and behavior change methods to create scalable, innovative learning experiences that help grow the careers of 50,000+ global associates and achieve Capital One's business imperatives. The Enterprise Learning Experience Design team is part of an award-winning learning and development organization, helping Capital One to attract and retain talent and building a culture of learning where everyone can thrive.

As the Enterprise Learning Experience Design Team Lead (Manager), you will lead a team that works collaboratively with business leaders, subject matter experts, stakeholders, and learners to research, design, develop, implement, and evaluate innovative, modern learning experiences in a variety of modalities. Your team will create learning experiences on a range of leadership development skills and capabilities ranging from emotional intelligence to data backed strategy development. You will design with scale in mind and leverage learning technology to create experiences that engage, inspire, and drive behavior change.

Position Responsibilities:
  • Learning Experience Design Strategy Leadership:
    • Lead the team and partner across Capital One to conduct and leverage research that describes the problem and how learning can be used to solve for it.
    • Create and use learner personas and journey maps to outline the broader scope of the end-to-end blended learning experiences.
    • Lead and enable the team to craft compelling, brand-defining, high quality content and hybrid learning experiences, leveraging design strategies like storytelling, scenarios, and multimedia to increase motivation to learn and make learning "sticky," across a range of modalities.
    • Deliver and participate in train-the-trainer activities, when applicable.
  • Innovative Learning Designer: Enable teams to design with innovation while keeping up with the latest thinking in instructional and learning experience design. Leveraging innovation to scale learning experiences across Capital One, while also meeting the personalized needs of learners.
  • Diversity Inclusion & Belonging Champion: Design experiences and content with a diversity, inclusion, belonging lens, in alignment with Capital One's deep commitment to creating a culture of belonging across the organization.
  • Experience Design Mindset:
    • Lead and design with the full experience in mind, thinking critically about how various learning-related touch points (e.g., communications, system alerts, learning experiences, evaluation materials, job aids) fit within the larger Capital One associate experience and enable skill development and behavior change.
    • Leverage experience design tools and methods to enable learner-centered design.
    • Work collaboratively with other program managers, internal communications specialists, designers and developers to ensure learning touchpoints are cohesive across the end-to-end experience.
  • Stakeholder Engagement & Change Management: Thrive working in a multi-stakeholder enterprise organization, where stakeholder management and engagement is as important to the effectiveness of the solutions delivered as is the quality of the learning experience designed. Consult with senior leaders and stakeholders on learning strategy and solutions that create an optimal learning experience that is scalable, while also able to meet unique needs within each line of business. Influence stakeholders to adopt alternative solutions where applicable.
  • People Leadership: Lead and manage the team's portfolio. Scope work, staff with the right skills to enable the work to be completed on time and at the expected quality, estimate bandwidth, and support teams to deliver effectively. Serve as a people leader who includes, empowers, and inspires their associates and builds a culture of belonging. Lead performance and talent management activities for your team, to include providing regular performance feedback and supporting career growth.


Basic Qualifications:
  • High School Diploma, GED, or Equivalent Certification
  • At least 3 years of experience creating learning strategy or at least 3 years of experience creating learning curriculum or a combination
  • At least 3 years of experience creating Leadership Development learning initiatives
  • At least 2 years of people management experience
  • At least 2 years of client consulting experience


Preferred Qualifications:
  • At least 5 years of experience creating learning strategy or at least 5 years of experience creating learning curriculum or a combination
  • At least 5 years of experience designing blended learning experiences and touch points in digital and classroom settings
  • At least 3 years working with agile team of learning program managers, designers and developers
  • At least 3 years of client consulting experience
