Are you passionate about the role of technology in supporting the mission of local government? Works as a junior cloud engineer to work within the Platform Technologies Division. Works with the county's various technical teams to develop, implement, optimize, and maintain cloud-based solutions using both the county's private and public cloud operating models. Deploys and debugs cloud stacks, educating teams on new cloud initiatives, and deliver day-to-day operational support of the cloud computing hyperconverged infrastructure of the county. Serves as an integral resource in the management, installation, and maintaining of county video teleconferencing communications (VTC) equipment. Also serves as a key role as part of the Network Operations Center related to the monitoring of infrastructure endpoints. To be successful, they should have expert-level experience in all basic system technologies, including Active Directory, DNS, and DHCP, as well as cloud technologies particularly Azure and Amazon Web Services (AWS). The cloud engineer should be able to identify the most optimal cloud-based solutions for the county's users and maintain cloud infrastructures in accordance with industry best practices. The individual should have excellent troubleshooting skills, stay current with industry trends, and should be a team player.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Any combination of education, experience, and training equivalent to the following: (Click on the aforementioned link to learn how Fairfax County interprets equivalencies for “Any combination, experience, and training equivalent to”) Graduation from an accredited four year college or university with a bachelor's degree in computer science, or closely related field; plus one year of systems programming experience in a complex information systems environment.
NECESSARY SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS:
The appointee to this position will be required to complete a criminal background check to the satisfaction of the employer.
All newly hired employees are required to be fully vaccinated against COVID-19 (two weeks after the last required dose) as a condition of employment or obtain approval of a medical or religious exemption prior to their start date. Proof of an exemption or vaccination status will be required during the pre-employment onboarding process. New employees who obtain an exemption from the vaccine mandate for medical or sincerely held religious beliefs may be subject to a weekly testing requirement. - Two (2)+ years of demonstrated experience working with VMWare.
- Expert-level knowledge of installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of Windows Server Operating systems, VMWare Sphere/VCF, Microsoft SQL, and working with Azure and Amazon Web Services.
- Two (2)+ years of day-to-day experience and support in an operational support role for distributed data systems in a Hyperconverged cloud infrastructure environment.
- Two (2)+ years of experience with VMware, vSAN and Hyper-converged systems.
- Expert-level knowledge of installation, configuration, and troubleshooting of Windows Server Operating systems, VMWare Sphere/VCF, Microsoft SQL, Nutanix, Dell VxRail
- Ability to utilize programming languages like JavaScript, Java, HTML/CSS, TypeScript, SQL, Python, and other technologies including Nutanix, Kubernetes, and a variety of Azure and AWS tools and services.
- Knowledge of server hardware and peripherals installation and problem resolution
- Knowledge of public clouds (AWS, Azure)
- Knowledge and hands on experience with updating, triaging, and resolving incidents using County’s current Service Management ticketing system (i.e. ServiceNow).
- Expert level skills with Active Directory, DNS, DHCP
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with County officials, department heads, and other key personnel
- Ability to tactfully make recommendations and influence decisions
- Ability to communicate complex ideas and plans clearly both orally and in writing to technical and non-technical staff
