Communications Manager, Finance Tech

As a member of the Finance Tech Chief of Staff (CoS) team, you will help lead, facilitate, and execute on a variety of the organization's goals. You will lead with a customer first perspective as the key principle to prioritization and planning. You will help to promote and cultivate our associates and our company culture, supporting company and Diversity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DIB) related initiatives. You will own important and exciting deliverables from day one, requiring strong relationships with smart and passionate leaders across the company to develop necessary strategic partnerships and simplify the delivery and execution of the organization and company goals. You will be challenged to excel and lead alongside the brightest talent in the industry.

In order to be successful in this role, you should be passionate about our associates, customers, clients, and technology. Excellent interpersonal skills, communication, and leadership skills will be critical. Success in this role depends on building rapport and credibility with multiple stakeholders across the organization. The ideal candidate must be flexible in fast-changing, undefined situations, and have demonstrated the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines at once, with a willingness to roll up their sleeves to bring objectives to life. Candidates should be excited to work on communication/associate engagement strategies, improve the daily lives of our engineers, connect delivery dots across teams, and help bring a positive employee culture to life.

What You'll Do :
  • Partner across the broader Enterprise. Data. Machine Learning (EDML) organization and / or the Finance Tech organization to ensure alignment, dependencies, and execution plans are vetted and achievable
  • Be a force-multiplier driving the effectiveness of the team
  • Independently create action plans and paths forward for horizontal projects as well as execute and report out on tracking and status.
  • Drive continuous improvement efforts and efficiencies
  • Partner closely with the CoS team & our key partner teams (Finance, Cyber, HR, etc) to develop mechanisms aligned to horizontal project work.
  • Own timely delivery of monthly and quarterly deliverables related to any regulatory requirements.
  • Deliver ad hoc requests to support the needs of the EDML tower priorities.


Responsibilities

Strategic Communications & Engagement Support
  • Partner with lead communicators and Chiefs of Staff to plan and prepare effective and engaging internal communications that educate, inform, connect with and inspire leaders and associates
  • Support tower leads in delivering communications that drive the Premium & Emerging Tech narrative
  • Curate engaging experiences including gatherings, meetings, team wide communications, and special events.
  • Own an internal subject area. Research, compile, and distribute relevant news through various internal channels, including maintaining the shared engagement, editorial and DIB calendars
  • Work across the team to ensure there is a holistic view of the organization's monthly calendar
  • Partner with internal partners an adhoc projects that serve the best interest of the line of business and its employees.


Employee Programs
  • Recognition & Appreciation
    • Manage Enterprise and Tech Associate Recognition Programs across Capital One and the business including Circle of Excellence, Lead the Way, and TechX
    • Support promotion acknowledgement and celebration
    • Partner with internal communications and Chief of Staffs to enhance or create various internal recognition programs
    • Own associate swag and gifting programs, identify opportunities to surprise and delight associates
  • Ongoing Program Management
    • Support tracking and communications related to horizontal programs like compliance based training, certifications, and onboarding


Event Management
  • Manage event production for associate based events including celebrations, quarterly team events, conference support, Lunch & Learn trainings, Speaker Series, and more
  • Support and execute on-site events (if needed)
  • Provide communication and support planning for team-wide events, including sending invites and incorporating communication reminders to the team
  • Gather feedback and review metrics/analytics to continue to enhance event programming


The successful candidate will have:
  • Excellent communication skills (oral, written, and listening)
  • Experience working with cross-functional teams to drive programs and build relationships
  • Ability to understand, organize and present complex information in an easily understandable format tailored to a variety of audiences
  • Proven creative ability in generating new and innovative ideas
  • Experience in conducting needs analysis discussions with leadership
  • Consistent track record of successfully managing large scale projects and events
  • Highly motivated and capable of both working independently and with a team
  • Strong organizational skills and high attention to detail
  • Able to handle multiple projects simultaneously with competing resources and deadline, and stay in budget
  • Strong writing and storytelling skills with sound editorial judgment

  • An effective communicator, able to develop and deliver a strategic narrative and craft message delivery for multiple audiences
  • Able to collaborate with others at a variety of levels across the organization.


Basic Qualifications:
  • At least 5 years of communications specialist experience
  • At least 2 years of experience working with technology delivery teams
  • At least 1 year of experience creating employee engagement content on behalf of leadership
  • At least 1 year of experience implementing business communication and organizational change management strategies


Preferred Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Communications, Marketing, English or Journalism
  • 3+ years of experience in financial services or technology
  • 3+ years of Project Management experience
  • PMP, Lean, Agile or Six Sigma certification
