Senior Research ScientistThe George Mason University, Center for Applied Proteomics and Molecular Medicine (CAPMM) in the College of Science School of Systems Biology is a world-renown laboratory that focuses on the development and implementation of cutting-edge protein analysis and advancing the field of "proteomics"- the systematic analysis of the protein architecture of diseases and biological processes.The focus of CAPMM is the discovery of protein biomarkers involved in cancer, head trauma, infectious disease process, cardiovascular disease and liver diseases amongst other. By prioritizing inclusive excellence in academics, teaching, research, and global engagement, we strive to attract a diverse pool of faculty and staff who exemplify the Mason Science mission and vision.About the Position:CAPMM is seeking a PhD level Senior Research Scientist with previous work experience in mass spectrometry, analytical chemistry, reverse phase protein array analysis and construction and general protein analytical chemistry based approaches.The objectives of the Senior Research Scientist position being filled here are to utilize and implement a number of specific proteomic technologies developed at the CAPMM including reverse phase protein array (RPPA), laser capture microdissection (LCM), high resolution mass spectrometry (MS) and associated CLIA/CAP accredited laboratory diagnostic modalities.The scientist will work on specific aims and objectives delineated in funded grants and contracts, as well as help generate data for new grants and contracts and will assist and lead efforts in both the CAPMM basic research and CLIA laboratories. The scientist must be able to work independently and lead projects as the senior scientist and will be expected to participate and assist in manuscript and abstract writing as well as grant/proposal submissions.Responsibilities:Performing analytical techniques in support of basic and translational research including protein analytical techniques such as SDS-PAGE and Western blotting, chromatography, LCM, RPPA construction and analysis, MS, nanoparticle synthesis and use for biomarker capture, cell culture, biobanking, and routine BSL-2 laboratory techniques;Assist in preparation of abstracts and posters;Manuscript preparation including lead-author writing assignments and composition;Assist in grant/proposal writing;Quality control and quality assurance laboratory methods; andAssist with laboratory equipment maintenance.Required Qualifications:PhD in chemistry, microbiology, biology, or related field;Must be able to work independently and lead projects as the senior scientist including but not limited to being able to analyze and interpret results as well;Must have background in analytical chemistry; andMust be able to participate in manuscript and abstract writing.Preferred Qualifications:Previous work experience in MS and RPPA technologies.
