The visual enterprise editor will be an active partner in elevating visually driven storytelling central to our coverage. The editor will oversee some long-term projects but will give priority to quick-turn pieces using formats that best fit the stories we are telling. The Washington region is a diverse and vibrant place and this new editor will help us capture the people and institutions that make it so.

This role is intended for a highly accomplished, collaborative visual journalist with a record of success working across teams and disciplines to imagine and execute memorable integrated multimedia storytelling. Excellent editorial and visual judgment are essential; competitive zeal is key, as is a high metabolism and a passion for breaking news and ongoing coverage. Candidates should have a strong background in visual reporting, with deep experience in video, photo, graphics or design, and should have at least five years of experience as an editor running a visual team. Strength in editing text for visual impact is preferred.

This editor will work closely with reporters and editors across the team to identify story targets, while also serving as the team lead in coordinating with the data, graphics, photo, video, audio and design editors whose responsibilities include climate, environment and weather news.

This position is based in our Washington newsroom.

Candidates should upload a résumé, cover letter and links to three examples of outstanding, integrated multimedia work to our jobs portal. All application materials can be uploaded to the same field. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled, but those received by 03/24/2023 will be prioritized. The cover letter should be addressed to Metro Editor Mike Semel, Deputy Metro Editor Maria Glod and Senior Editor for Visual Enterprise Ann Gerhart.
